FUSE
Rope adjustment device to EN 12841-A, guided-type fall
arrester on movable guide to EN 353-2, single anchor
lifelines and fall arresters for personal fall arrest systems
to ANSI/ASSE Z359.15.
GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES
This product is part of personal protective equipment for
protection against fall from a height and should be as-
signed to one person. These instructions for use contain
important notes. The instructions must have been under-
stood by the user before actual use. The reseller must
provide this document in the language spoken in the
country of use and it must be kept together with the
equipment during the entire service life. The following
instructions for use are important and help ensuring
proper practical application. However, they cannot re-
place experience, responsible action and knowledge re-
quired for mountaineering, climbing, and working at
height; and they certainly cannot free users from assess-
ing their personal risk. The product must be used exclu-
sively by trained, experienced persons or by instructed
persons who are being supervised. Users must be aware
that poor physical and/or mental health can jeopardise
safety under normal conditions and in emergencies. At-
tention: If these instructions for use are not carefully
observed, the life of persons may be at risk!
GENERAL SAFETY NOTES
Mountaineering, climbing, and work at a height or depth
often entail hidden risks and hazards from external influ-
ences. Errors and carelessness may cause severe acci-
dents, injuries, and even death. If this product is com-

bined with other components, these may mutually affect
safety. Use the product only in connection with CE
marked components of personal protective equipment
(PPE) for protection against fall from a height. If original
components of the product are modified or removed, the
safety properties may be influenced adversely. The
equipment should not be altered, modified or adjusted
by use of additional parts in any way not specifically rec-
ommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and
after use, check the product for possible damages. En-
sure correct function and suitability for use. If in doubt
concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it
from use immediately. In case of abuse and/or improper
use, the manufacturer refuses any liability. In such cases,
the responsibility and risk lie with the users or persons
responsible for the operation. When using this product,
we recommend additionally observing the applicable
national rules. Personal protective equipment is exclu-
sively designed for securing of persons.
PRODUCT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION, FIGURE CAP-
TIONS
Before using the equipment, the user must draw up a
rescue concept that ensures a person falling into a PPE
is rescued immediately, safely and effectively. Motion-
less suspension in a harness may cause severe injury
and even death (suspension trauma). Overload or dy-
namic loading of the device may not only damage the
device itself but also the rope used.
Users should excersise special care when using the de-
vice near moving machinery, sources of electric hazard,
sharp edges, and abrasive surfaces as well as near
chemicals, and in rough environments.
Anchorage points
For safety reasons, it is essential to choose the position
of the anchorage device or anchorage point and the type
of work to be carried out in such a way that free fall and
fall height are kept to a minimum. Before using a fall ar-
rest system, ensure there is enough space below the
user (including any objects and structures). In order to
avoid high loads and swinging falls, anchor points for
belay purposes must always be as directly vertical above
the belayed person as possible. The anchorage point
must be designed and selected so that the connection to
the PPE will not result in effects reducing the loading
strength or in damage to the PPE. Edges and burrs
should be covered, where necessary, using suitable aux-
iliary equipment. The anchorage point and the connector
must be capable of supporting the loads occurring in the
most unfavourable case. Even if energy absorbers (to
EN 355) are used, the anchorage points must be capable
of bearing a force of 12 kN, also see EN 795. Anchorage
points to ANSI/ASSE Z359.4 must be capable of bear-
ing a force of 3100 lbs (or 13.8 kN) or must correspond
to a safety factor of 5:1 (provided these are specified and
monitored by an adequately qualified person); the lower
of the two values may be selected.
EN 12841-A: Type A devices are meant to be used as a
rope adjustment device for the belaying rope, which fol-
lows the user when he changes his position and/or allow
adjustment of the belaying rope. If deliberately burdened
with the total user weight, the belaying rope becomes a
work rope, requiring use of an additional second belaying
system.
Ropes tested within the frame of the certification to
EN 12841 type A:
- EDELRID Performance Static 10.0 mm.
- EDELRID Performance Static 12.0 mm.
EN 353-2: These devices are guided-type fall arresters
with movable guide fastened to a top anchorage point and
which are always considered part of a fall arrest system to
EN 363. The individual system belays one user only during
ascent and work on a vertical, inclined, or horizontal struc-
ture and must only be used together with the rope speci-
fied (maximum length 250 m) including a sewn rope end.
The angle between the movable guide and the vertical axis
of the anchorage point must not exceed 30°. The maxi-
mum lateral offset during horizontal use must not exceed
1.5 m. Attach a weight (Fig. 7a) at the rope end to mini-
mize the lateral movement of the rope (e.g. due to wind).
It is recommended to use the sternal eye of the required
fall arrest harness to EN 361 for connection.
ANSI/ASSE Z359.15: These devices are guided-type
fall arresters with movable guide fastened to a top an-
chorage point. The individual system belays one user
only during ascent and work on a vertical, inclined, or
horizontal structure and must only be used together with
the rope specified including a sewn rope end. For con-
nection to the anchorage point, attach a connector that
is compatible with the anchorage point to the sewn rope
end. The sternal or dorsal eye can be used for connec-
tion to the fall arrest harness. The user should rest on a
solid surface.
1 DESIGNATIONS OF PARTS
A: Connecting bracket, B: Blocking switch, C: RFID chip,
D: Opening button, E: Marking, F: Mark indicating that
the device is not closed completely, G: Trigger wheel,
H: Rope clamp, I: Fastening screw, J: Fastening sleeve,
K: Connecting sling for FUSE, L: Connecting sling for
connector (connection to harness).
2 COMPATIBILITY
Required and possible combinations of all components
needed and their rated loading capacities for proper use
and connection to the user according to standards. If
needed, use an anti-twist. Range of admissible operating
temperature.
3 INSTALLATION OF ENERGY ABSORBERS
Correct installation of an energy absorber at FUSE. Only
the energy absorber types Defuser S, Defuser L, and
Defuser RESCUE made by EDELRID may be used in con-
nection with FUSE. The energy absorber may be re-
placed by an authorised person only. In no case may the
device be used without an energy absorber or the sys-
tem be composed other than described in section 2.
Extension or shortening are not allowed. The bolt must
be screwed in completely and tightened to the torque
defined (3a); it must be secured with a bolt adhesive.
