TAKE A SIP OF WATER
PLACE TOOL 4 ON THE PALATE, BEHIND THE FRONT TEETH
CLOSE LIPS AROUND THE TOOL HANDLE
PLACE THE TONGUE TIP ON THE FRONT SECTION OF THE PALATE
BITE ON THE HANDLE
SWALLOW ONLY WITH SALIVA WITH NO FOOD IN MOUTH

Lips are shut lightly to form a seal
Soft palate is raised to assist with velopharyngeal closure
Tongue is in a neutral position

Vocal folds are abducted (voiceless sound)
Lips are separated quickly, and breath escapes, creating an

Elevation of the tip and sides of tongue to the front and
sides of the hard palate to form a seal
Oral air pressure builds up behind the tongue-palate seal
Vocal folds are abducted (voiceless sound)
The tongue palatal seal is suddenly opened, and breath
escapes creating an explosive sound

Same as above /t/ except that the vocal folds are
adducted (voiced sound)
SOUND: /n/
Same as above /t/ except the soft palate is lowered to
open velopharynx The airstream will flow through the nasal
airway instead of oral airway (nasal sound)
3: LINGUA-VELAR SOUNDS (BACK TONGUE TO BACK OF
PALATE)

Elevation of back of tongue to contact the back of hard
palate and front of soft palate to form a seal

Tongue-palate seal is opened, and breath escapes, creating
an explosive sound

Same as above /k/ except the vocal folds are adducted
(voiced sound)
SOUND: /ng/
Same as above /k/ except the soft palate is lowered to
