1.1 Measuring system

PROFIBUS-PA is an open fieldbus standard based on EN 50 170, DIN 19245 and
IEC 1158-2, designed for process automation.
In the simplest case, the complete measuring system comprises a TMD 834
temperature transmitter, a PROFIBUS-PA terminating resistor, a segment coupler, a
PLC or a personal computer with a PROFIBUS-DP interface or Proficard and the
operating program Commuwin II.
The maximum number of TMD 834 temperature transmitters per bus segment is
determinated by their current consumption, the power supply of the bus coupler and
the required bus length, see TI 260F/00/en. Normally, however:
• max 7 Profigrad TMD 834 for EEx ia applications
• max 32 Profigrad TMD 834 for non hazardous applications
can be operated per bus segment.
