food on the hot grilling plates. Do not scratch or cut on the grilling plates. Only use
cooking utensils made of wood or heat-resistant plastic. Expect splashes of hot fat
and juices in the surroundings of the appliance. During operation, ensure that all
persons (including you) stay in sufficient distance.

PREPARATIONS

1. Prepare your food. Remove all inedible parts and cut your food to pieces of suf-
ficient size and thickness (approx. 2-3 cm / 1 inch). Defrost frozen food, before
grilling. Dab dry humid pieces via a kitchen towel.
2. Place the appliance on a suitable surface (see: 'General Safety Instructions'),
near a suitable wall power outlet (see: 'Important Safeguards for Electrical Appli-
ances'). Unwind the power cord completely.
3. Installing the grilling plates: Ensure that the grilling plates are completely cle-
an and dry. Place BOTH grilling plates onto the housing with the desired side
(fluted or flat) upwards and the drain slits to the centre of the appliance. The
grilling plates must be hooked into the holders in the centre of the housing. At
the outer sides of the appliance, press the grilling plates down gently until they
engage with a click in the spring clamps. Check, if the grilling plates are fixed
stably and level.
4. Installing the drip tray: Push the drip tray completely into the console of the
appliance. The front plate must level up with the console.
IMPORTANT - Handle the splash shield with care to avoid damage to the hinges
5. Installing the splash shield: Unfold the splash shield and place it onto the rear
rim of the appliance. Then hook the sides of the splash shield into the grooves
at the sides of the appliance.
6. Ensure that both control dials are turned to the "0" position and the power
switch is switched to "O". Then, connect the appliance to the power supply. If
required, tie the power cord to a leg of the table or counter via a separate cord
(see: 'Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances').
7. Switch on the appliance via the power switch at the rear of the housing ("I" posi-
tion). The heating indicators of the control dials illuminate blue.
NOTE
As with most other electrical grilling devices, during the very first use, you may
notice some smoke and a slightly burnt smell from under the grilling plates. This is
normal and harmless (see: 'Before First Use / First Heating').
