10. DCF Reception

The weather station (and second receiver unit) can receive and evalu-
ate the so-called DCF signal.
This is a signal which is sent by a transmitter in Mainflingen (near
Frankfurt on the Main). Its range is up to 1500km. and if transmission
conditions are ideal even up to 2000km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time (theoreti-
cal deviation of 1 second in a million years!) and the date.
This means you do not have to switch manually between daylight
savings time and normal time.
The first DCF reception trial is always performed upon initial operation
(fitting the batteries) (see chapter 9).

The detection of the DCF signal and its evaluation can last a few minutes. If a good reception position
was found, do not move the weather station or second receiver unit during that time. Do not press any
buttons at the weather station or second receiver unit.
Do not place the weather station or second receiver unit next to any electric/electronic devices; do not
place it near cables, mains sockets or metallic parts. This would interfere with reception.
A bad reception can also be caused by, e.g. metallised insulated glass, reinforced concrete construction
design, coated special wallpaper or an installation in cellars.
Automatic synchronisation is performed daily around midnight, 3 a.m., 6 a.m. and noon. A single reception per day
is sufficient to keep the daily precision deviation under 1 second.

Time and date can be entered manually for positions with bad reception.
You may manually initiate a reception attempt for the DCF signal by pressing the "+" button (7) on the
weather station until the DCF radio mast icon flashes (see chapter 9. d). Now the weather station once
more attempts to find and evaluate the DCF signal.
A new reception attempt can also be started for the second receiver unit. For this, press the button ""
(19) until the radio mast icon in the lower left of the display disappears. DCF reception is now switched
off. Depress the button. Then press the button "" (19) again until the radio mast icon flashes. Then
release the button.
