7.2 Performing the pressure build-up test
Important! For this test the vehicle battery must be fully charged!
Switch on the ignition and run the engine for 10 to 15 seconds.
Observe the pressure readout while the engine is running.
Note:
There will be a delay to the pressure build-up, as the hose first needs to be charged!
Evaluating the pressure readout:
- Pressure greater than 25 MPa (250 bar)
The low pressure circuit and the high pressure pump are OK in terms of pressure build-up
during the start phase.
- Pressure less than 25 MPa (250 bar)
Check the low pressure circuit is at its specified pressure and check for bubbling.
Bubbling in the fuel and inadequate pressure at the high pressure pump in the low pressure
circuit will severely affect the pressure build-up of the high pressure pump.
If the low pressure circuit is OK, the high pressure pump and its attached components
(pressure control valve, metering unit, relief valve) must be checked.
If everything is OK and the fault has still not been eliminated, follow the further procedure as set
out in the vehicle-specific troubleshooting guide.
7.3 Removing the pressure pickup module
- Ignition SWITCHED OFF!
Pressure gage indicating zero pressure!
- Detach the hose from the high pressure pump.
- Remove the pressure pickup module and the gage.
- Attach a new high pressure line to the rail and the high pressure pump.
Follow the manufacturer's assembly instructions and apply the specified tightening torque!
- Run the engine and check the lines for leaks.
- After running a test drive make a visual check for leaks.
