TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Position of serial number
Enter the serial number at the location provided below. You will
need this serial number to order parts and with technical or
warranty-related queries.
Engine serial number:
ETHANOL
(Ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol) 10% of the volume
You can use gasoline with up to 10% of ethanol mixed in. Gasoline
grades containing ethanol are sometimes marketed under the
name "Gasohole".
MTBE
(methyl tertiary butyl ether) 15% of the volume
You can use gasoline grades containing up to 15% of MTBE.
METHANOL
(Methyl alcohol or wood spirit) 5% of the volume
You can use gasoline grades containing up to 5% of methanol as
long as this gasoline contains additional solvents and an
anticorrosive to protect the fuel system. Gasoline grades with more
than 5% of methanol may cause problems during starting and/or
with the engine power. Furthermore, they may damage metal,
rubber and plastic parts of the fuel system.
If you notice undesirable symptoms during operation change the
petrol station or use a different grade of gasoline.
Damages on the fuel system or problems with the motor
performance that can be traced to gasoline grades used and where
the percentages listed above were exceeded are not covered by
the warranty.
Information on the emission control system
Cause for pollutant emissions
Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons are generated
through the combustion process. Controlling hydrocarbons and
nitrogen oxides is important because under certain circumstances
ENGINE
they react chemically and change into photochemical smog through
the effect of the sun. Although carbon monoxide does not react in
SERIAL
the same manner, it is still toxic.
NUMBER
The so-called "lean" adjustment of carburettors and other systems
utilizes this fact to reduce the emission of carbon monoxide,
nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons.
Impermissible interventions and modifications
Interventions or modifications to the emission control system may
cause the values to rise above the legal limits. These interventions
include, amongst others:
Removal or modifications of the supply, fuel or exhaust
systems.
Modification or disconnection of the controller or the speed
adjustment to allow the engine to be operated with other
performance ranges than specified by the manufacturer.
Problems that may affect the emission of pollutants
You should have the engine inspected or repaired by your customer
service if you notice the following problems:
Difficult starting or stalling after starting
Irregular idle
Misfiring under load
Afterburning (exhaust backfiring)
Black exhaust gases or high gasoline consumption.
Spare parts
The emission control systems of your engine correspond with the
manufacturer specifications. We absolutely recommend the use of
original spare parts during maintenance. These original spare parts
are manufactured according to the same standards as original
parts, that is, you can rely on their performance. The use of
non-original spare parts and compromised quality may affect the
efficiency of the emission control system.
The manufacturer of such accessory parts is responsible to ensure
that the respective part does not have a negative effect on
emissions. The manufacturer of such a part must confirm that the
use of the spare part does not cause the engine to be unable to
meet the pollutant regulations.
Maintenance
Please follow the maintenance plan. Remember that this plan was
developed assuming that you will use your engine according to the
specifications. Continuous operation under full load or the use in
wet or dusty conditions requires more frequent maintenance.
