8.1 Pulse measurement
The pulse in pulse mode is displayed in beats per minute ("B/M").
Apply the heart rate monitor correctly to the left hand.
Activate pulse measurement in the pulse mode with the START/STOP button.
The heart rate monitor now searches for pulse signals and the heart symbol
search is indicated with the following short code:
L0: no pulse signal
L1: weak signal
L2: normal signal
L3: strong signal
As soon as a continuous pulse signal is received, the display changes from the short code to the per-
centage display of the maximum pulse. The maximum pulse is calculated from 220 minus your age.

The pulse measurement will continue even when you change the mode during measurement. If the
monitor can no longer detect a continuous pulse, an error message appears:
EE: detrimental and strong hand movements.
ER: no pulse signal for longer than 32 seconds.
If no signal is received at all, the monitor switches off automatically. "Off" appears.
Note that the pulse measurement is made more difficult by many factors:
– Cold – blood vessels contract.
– Very strong hand movement – the optical finger sensor cannot receive any continuous signals.
– Arms hanging down – blood circulation is inhibited.
– Finger sensor fitted too tightly - blood circulation is inhibited.
Stop the pulse measurement immediately by releasing the finger strap if you feel pain or numbness
in your index finger.
In addition, the left side of the display will indicate with the following symbols if the upper
or lower training limits you set are exceeded:

8.2 Settings in the pulse mode
To select settings, no other functions, such as stopwatch or pulse measurement, must be
activated.
Keep the SELECT/LAP button pressed for at least 2 seconds until the sequence number
"A" appears at bottom left. You can now use the UP/LIGHT button to set the following
