2) INFORMATION: Reducing the pretension increases knee safety while increasing the
pretension decreases knee safety.
Adjust the pretension of the EBS unit in order to achieve the desired stance phase flexion
behaviour (see Fig. 10). Ensure that the pivoting mount does not permanently touch the end
stop while walking.

CAUTION
Overheating of the hydraulics due to excessive strain

In case of changes in functionality, stop all activities and allow the overheated prosthetic

components to cool down.
► In case of changes in functionality, reduce strain on the prosthetic component in order to
allow cooling.
► In case of overheating or changes in functionality, have the prosthetic component inspected
for damage by a service centre authorised by the manufacturer.

6.1 Using the vacuum pump
The vacuum pump is operated mechanically while walking with the prosthetic knee joint. A vacu­
um is created in the prosthetic socket during flexion while the medium being conveyed is
exhausted through the discharge valve during extension. An elevated vacuum is reached in the
sealed socket environment after several pump cycles. A vacuum can be generated even before
walking by flexing and extending the prosthetic knee joint while standing.
6.2 Flushing the vacuum pump
