• In order to reduce the malfunctioning risk of the System Electric Hand and the connected
components due to strong electromagnetic radiation (e.g. when near high-tension power lines,
transmitters, transformers or security systems for goods in department stores), set the electrode
gains as low as possible.
• Before interrupting or establishing electrical connections (such as when removing the hand from
the prosthesis), the system must be disconnected from the power supply. For this purpose,
either remove the battery from the battery receptacle or turn the prosthesis off by pressing the
button in the charging receptacle.
• If you do not achieve the expected results with the adjustments or with the chosen program,
please contact an Ottobock Myo-Service Facility.
• Instruct the patient in the appropriate handling of the System Electric Hand as described in
Chapter 3 "Patient Information".
3  Patient Information
• Do not let foreign particles or liquids enter the Hand. The Hand should not be subjected to
intense smoke, dust, mechanical vibrations, shocks or high temperatures.
• Avoid staying near high-tension power lines, transmitters, transformers or other sources of
strong electromagnetic radiation (such as security systems for goods in department stores),
as this can lead to malfunction of the Electric Hand.
• The System Electric Hand as well as damaged components of the Hand may be opened or
repaired only by the certified Ottobock Myo-Service.
• The System Electric Hand was developped for every-day activities. It should not be used for ex-
ceptional activities such as extreme sports (free-climbing, paragliding, etc.). Careful handling of
the prosthesis and its components increases not only the life-cycle of the hand but also ensures
the personal safety of the amputee! If the System Electric Hand was exposed to extreme loads
(e.g. during a fall,...) then have your Orthopaedic Technician check the hand for damages. If
necessary the hand should be sent to an Ottobock Myo-Service facility.
• If the hand is not in use, it should be left in the open position to protect the mechanism
and prosthetic glove.
• Please provide your patient with the 646D44 Patient Information.
• If the distance to HF communication devices (e.g. mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, WiFi
devices) is too small, interference with internal data communications can result in unexpected
prosthesis behaviour. Therefore, keeping the following minimum distances to these HF com-
munication devices is recommended:
• Mobile phone GSM 850/GSM 900: 0.99 m
• Mobile phone GSM 1800/GSM 1900/UMTS: 0.7 m
• DECT cordless phones incl. base station: 0.35 m
• WiFi (routers, access points,...): 0.22 m
• Bluetooth devices (third-party products not approved by Ottobock): 0.22 m
• When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active, implantable systems (e.g. pace-
makers, defibrillators, etc.), ensure that the minimum distances stipulated by the manufacturer
of the implant are observed. Interference with active, implantable systems may occur due to
the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the product. Furthermore, make sure to observe any
operating conditions and safety instructions stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant.
