9. Maintenance

At certain intervals, maintenance and function checks must be carried out that ensure trouble-free operation and roadworthiness for a long time.
Engine vibrations and shocks when driving can cause parts or screw connections to become loose.
Therefore, ALWAYS check all screws before and after operating the model and retighten them if necessary.
At certain intervals, maintenance and function checks must be carried out that ensure trouble-free operation and roadworthiness for a long time.
Engine vibrations and shocks when driving can cause parts or screw connections to become loose.
Check before each use:
• All wheel nuts and screw connections must be tight.
• When replacing screws, secure them with threadlocker.
• Make sure the servo arms are installed tightly on the servo shaft.
• Make sure the fuel tubes and the air filter are in good condition and securely installed.
• The cables must be installed properly.
• Also check the state of the rechargeable batteries of the transmitter and the receiver.
Cleaning
• After driving, clean the entire vehicle of dust and dirt, use compressed air and/or a special spray cleaner.
• Pay particular attention to the bearings. Take off the wheels once in a while and clean the ball bearings of dust and dirt.
• After cleaning, the movable parts must be re-lubricated.
• After lubricating the bearings, also remove escaping oil and grease, since this is where dust can settle particularly well.
• Also clean the cooling fins of the cooling head regularly with a toothbrush in order to ensure optimal heat transmission.
Brakes
Brake linings or brake discs wear out over time. Thus, the braking effect gets weaker as the maximum brake pressure is set according to the thickness of new
linings/brake discs.
If you observe that the braking effect is getting weaker:
• Check the thickness of the brake discs.
• If necessary, correct the position of the adjusting rings on the brake control linkage.
Lubrication
All moveable parts and parts running on bearings must be lubricated with low-viscosity machine oil or spray grease after cleaning and after each use.
Fuel system, engine
• Impurities must not get into the tank or the carburettor and/or definitely not into the engine. Impurities can cause spark failures under load or a bad idle speed
setting. In the worst case, an impurity between the cylinder lining and the piston can cause the piston to get stuck or lead to a piston seizure.
• For safety reasons, install a fuel filter between the tank and the carburettor to filter out particulate material from the fuel.
• Only use fuel intended for RC cars.
• Always use fresh fuel and keep the tank cap firmly shut. Over time, model fuel absorbs humidity. The humidity reduces the fuel's performance and leads to
engine problems and corrosion in the engine.
• Empty the tank if you do not use the model for several days. The volatile components of the fuel, nitromethane and methanol, evaporate and leave behind oil
that enriches the mixture and can block tubes or pipes.
• If you want to stop driving for the day, screw off the glow plug and drip a few drops of after-run engine oil (low-viscosity machine oil) into the cylinder. Re-attach
the glow plug and turn the model a couple of times upside down to allow the oil to spread out in the combustion chamber. This prevents corrosion.
• If you do not use the model for a longer period of time, e.g. in winter, drip 2 - 3 drops of preservation oil (accessory) into the cylinder.
• Fasten the fuel tubes at the connector nipples with thin cable ties or special tube ties (accessories). Otherwise, the oil in the fuel can cause slipping.
