3. Application notes

PHE III... voltage detectors consist of three or more elements,
that is they are fitted with a detachable insulating stick and
a detachable test prod and, if required, with one or several
extension handles (see also Figs. 1 to 3, pages 5 to 7).
When using PHE III... voltage detectors, the following
instructions must be observed - threat to life!
PHE III... voltage detectors are available in category "S"
and "L". Voltage detector kits may include one test prod
of category "S" and "L".
"S" stands for switchgear. Voltage detectors marked with
"S" can be used for switchgear installations and overhead
lines.
"L" stands for line. Voltage detectors marked with "L" can
be used for overhead lines (see Fig. 4).
The upper end (test electrode
test prods of PHE III... voltage detectors is fitted with a
toothed ring, allowing safe contact with the part of the
installation (see Fig. 4).
4. Assembly of PHE III... voltage detectors
The following individual parts of PHE III... voltage detectors
may only be used as specified:
- Test electrode (optional)
- Test prod (integrated electrode with toothed ring)
- Indicator
- Adapter
- Insulating stick / insulating element / handle
- Extension handle
- End fitting
PHE III... voltage detectors must consist at least of the
following single parts:
- Test prod (integrated electrode with toothed ring)
- Indicator
- Insulating stick (consisting of insulating
element / handle)
