2. General instructions for use

When using PHE III... voltage detectors, the following instructions must be observed - threat
to life!
2.1 Only use PHE III... voltage detectors that are rated for the nominal voltage and nominal frequency of
the electrical installation (see rating plate, section 5.1).
2.2 Check PHE III... voltage detectors for proper operation before and after they are used.
2.3 Attach the test electrode to the bare metal conductor. If required, pierce coats of paint by means of the
test electrode.
2.4 Only contact the handle of PHE III... voltage detectors and operate them from a safe location so that
the required safety distance from all live parts of the installation is maintained.
2.5 When making contact by means of the test electrodes of PHE III... voltage detectors, keep them as far
away as possible from other live or earthed parts of the installation.
PHE III... voltage detectors consist of several elements (see section 4. Assembly and Figs. 1 to 3).
2.6 PHE III... voltage detectors are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
PHE III... voltage detectors can also be used in wet weather conditions. However, in this case, they must
not be permanently energised for more than 1 minute.
2.7 The position of the voltage detector does not affect its proper electrical function. The operating position
depends on the local conditions of the installation.
2.8 Observe the prescribed limit values of –25°C to +55°C (temperature) and 20% to 96% (humidity)
when using and storing PHE III... voltage detectors.
2.9 Wipe dry condensed PHE III... voltage detectors (e.g. due to extreme temperature fluctuations) prior to
use.
2.10 Occasionally check under operating voltage conditions (lowest voltage of the nominal voltage range)
whether the voltage detector responds.
2.11 Please retain these instructions for use with the PHE III... voltage detector for future reference.
