Using the PHE III... voltage detector in an installation

After performing a functional test, the green light is permanently illuminated meaning that the
voltage detector is ready for testing. Now move the electrode / test electrode of the PHE III...
voltage detector closer to the installation to be tested within a period of 40 to 60 seconds.
The relevant voltage / operating state of the part of the installation to be tested is now
indicated via the indication signals of the voltage detector (see Fig. 6.1 and Table 6.1).
The voltage test may only be performed as long as the green indicator light is permanently
illuminated, that is the voltage detector is operational. As soon as the voltage detector is no
longer operational, it is switched off automatically (see 6.1).
If further tests are to be carried out, press the "TEST" button again to perform a functional
test.
The PHE III... voltage detector is immediately ready for testing again (see 6.1 and Fig. 6.1).
If "voltage present" (red light) is indicated, an electronic interlock prevents that the
detector automatically is switched off during testing. After the test has been completed, the
device remains ready for testing (permanent green light) as long as it is operational
(see Fig. 6.1 and Table 6.1) to perform further tests.
Another functional test must be performed after testing.
6.3
PHE III... voltage detector with nominal voltage selector switch
6.3.1 Principle of the nominal voltage selector switch:
The nominal voltage selector switch can be
switched into two positions to set the voltage
detector to the nominal voltage ranges e.g.
3...10 kV or 10...30 kV (see Fig. 6.3.1). The
nominal voltage selector switch is designed as
a slide switch.
Note:
The nominal voltage range may differ in case
of special versions.
The movable inner part of the switch indicates
in which nominal voltage range (see side
inscriptions) measurements can be performed.
The switch snaps into the relevant position thus
preventing unintentional switching.
To move the switch, unlatch the switch by applying light pressure on the inner part. Now the
switch can be moved into another position.
The switch automatically snaps into the next switching position. For verifying safe isolation from
supply voltage, the switch must be snapped into the relevant position of the nominal voltage
selector switch! If the switch is situated between two positions, the PHE III... voltage detector
will not operate properly.
