Operating modes and programming
CANcom supports 4 different operating modes:
1. Operation by means of "CAN to SMS" or "SMS to CAN" function
The unit can detect CAN messages on the bus and transmit them as SMS with-
out a special control program. The receipt of a specially formatted SMS triggers a
CAN message on the bus. It does not make any difference if the unit is used as
CAN Layer 2 or as CANopen system. The unit must be configured accordingly
(see software tool "CANcom Configurator", article no. CP9015 and documenta-
tion "Structure of the SMS messages").

2. The CANcom on the PC evaluation side is operated without a special control
program with the software tool "CANcom Basis" (see diagram page 4 and soft-
ware tool "CANcom Basis", article no. CP9017).

3. CANcom is accessed as CANopen node by means of a control program and
the unit-specific communication protocol on the basis of process data objects. For
this operating mode the user has 2 Trans PDOs and 2 Rec PDOs (see segment
data transmission by means of "CANcom-Data-PDO" and "Master-Data-PDO",
page 64f).
4. If an ifm ecomat R 360 controller is used as CANopen master the IEC 61131
library "CANcom_a.lib" of the ifm programming software ecolog 100
integrated into the control program. This ifm library contains all functions requi-
red for the communication between CANcom and the controller ecomat R360
(see page 59f).
