of its normal perpendicular position so the SG 561 may also play tapes
recorded on machines with non-standard record head positions.
Adjustment should be made (with an anti-magnetic screwdriver) until
upper knob of Control ® up all the way for füll playback of the high
frequencies.
In restoring the head gap to correspond with the record head of the
SG 561, correct adjustment will have been achieved when optimum
reproduction of high frequencies is heard during off-the-tape monitoring
of an SG 561 recording. It is best to make this re-adjustment at the
9.6 Using UHER Reducer-Adapter K 853
The K 853 reducer-adapter is for use in connecting the SG 561 to mono
sound equipment. It will always be needed when the mono equipment
has a Standard 3-pin socket that cannot be connected directly to the
SG 561 by means of UHER 5-pin Stereo lead K 541.
9.8 Erasing Only
Whenever the SG 561 is operating in record mode, any previous re-
cording on the tape is automatically erased. For erasure only the ma-
chine should be operated just äs for record but with Level Controls @,
© , © and © turned all the way to the left.
9.7 Adding Sound to Film
The SG 561 also provides a facility for pulse-controlled synchronization
of sound to 8 mm or 16 mm film (two-ribbon technique). The tape head
pins 4 and 6 (6 = ground) of the A «Stocket and may be used for
record and playback of the sync cueing Signals.
9.9 Rapid Erasure
In special cases it may be desirable to erase a recording rapidly. The
rapid erasure device is provided for this purpose. All that is necessary
is to depress the "Recording" key ® during the Fast Forward or Rewind
Operation. The recording will then be erased by a high pitch whistle tone.
Hi-Fi Stereo Amplifier
of the SG 561 remain switched off so that the amplifier stage with its
Stereo inputs may be operated alone äs an amplifier with two mixable
Stereo inputs. Either two Stereo record-players (equipped with equalizing
preamplifier) or two Stereo cassette or open-spool tape recorders may
be oonnected to the SG 561 via the sockets RADIO/PHONO l 4; and
PHONO II 4, .
After the desired input sources have been connected, use Level Con-
trols @, (D , ® and © to adjust the record level so that the Level
Meters © and © will read 0 dB at the loudest Programme passages.
The level adjustment should be made separately for each input, one
after the other. Next, regulate the treble, bass and volume with con-
Position. The first input source may then be faded out and the second
source faded in äs well äs regulated by Level Controls @ and © or
© and © . To permit making an announcement through the micro-
phone in addition, the microphone input may always be switched in-circuit
with the MICRO Switch © during playback of an input source connected
to the PHONO II socket ^ • Use Control (2) to fade in a mono micro-
phone, Controls @ and © for a stereo microphone. It is advisable to
mark the position of the level controls for each input source. Making:
announcements through the microphone may lead to acoustic feedback
(noticeable by a whistle or howl). It is caused when the sound entering
the live microphone from the loudspeakers is too strong. In such event,
either set the level controls so high that no whistle is heard or increase
the distance between the microphone and the loudspeakers.
