h) Transistors with faulty or very low gain
In case of faulty transistors that have a
very low gain, the tester may only detect
one or more diode junctions. This is
because NPN transistors have a struc-
ture of junctions that act like a common
anode diode network. PNP transistors
behave like a cathode diode network.
The common node represents the base
connection. This is normal for situations
in which the current gain is so low that it
cannot be measured at the test currents
used by the tester.
In certain circumstances, the device is
not able to derive any meaningful infor-
mation from the component. In which
case, one of the following notifications
is displayed.
