b) Diodes

The tester can analyse almost every type of diode. Any two of the
three probes can be connected to the diode in any way. If the de-
vice detects a single diode, the following message is displayed:
• Pressing
displays the diode's pinout. In the
example, the anode of the diode is
connected to the red probe and the
cathode is connected to the green
probe. The blue probe is not con-
nected. The forward voltage is then
displayed. This gives information on
the diode technology. In this example,
it is probable that the diode is a silicon
diode. A germanium or Schottky di-
ode has a forward voltage of approx.
0.25 V. The current used to test the
diode is also displayed.
• The tester determines that the diode tested is an LED, if the
measured forward voltage drop exceeds 1.50 V. Please read
the additional information in the section on LED analysis.
