This section describes the commissioning of the telephone and the answering machine on
the COMfortel 1400 IP. After a successful commissioning, you can make internal calls. You
can customise your telephone and the answering machine using the PC configuration
described at the end of this chapter.

Commissioning the Telephone

Note: If you want to integrate the telephone into an existing network, please
contact the responsible system administrator. Making changes to an exist-
ing network may cause considerable malfunctions.
Requirements
– The network cable delivered with the telephone
Note: If you require a longer or shorter network cable, use one without snap
tab protection, because you may not be able to insert it far enough.
– If PoE is not supported: an additional network cable and an PoE Injector as
adapter between power supply and ethernet cable
– For operation as system telephone: PBX according to the proper use (see
Important Information > Proper Use)
– Internal telephone number entered in the configuration with the correspond-
ing password for the telephone
– For automated configuration from a provisioning server: provisioning file
which is stored on the provisioning server and is known on the DHCP server

Commissioning

In a network that supports PoE: Insert the other end of the network
cable into the network cable socket of the telephone.
In a network that does not support PoE: Insert the other end of the
network cable into the LAN socket of the PoE Injector. Use the additional
network cable to connect the PoE socket of the PoE Injector to the net-
work cable socket of the telephone.
