The system must be installed in keeping with the
guidelines contained in AVB Water V, §12.2 by a
water utility or by an installing company registered
with a water utility. Local installation regulations,
general guidelines, hygiene conditions and technical
data must be observed.

Installation location and surroundings
Soft water units may not be installed in installations
where fire extinguishers are connected.
The site of installation must be frost-proof and
guarantee the protection of the equipment against
chemicals, dyestuffs, solvents and vapours, it
must have a unit seal in accordance with DIN
18195-5 and allow a simple connection to the water
network.
A sewer connection a floor drain and a separate
network connection (230 V/50 Hz) in the immediate
proximity are required.
If no floor drain is available, then a separate safety
device (e.g. BWT water stop) must be used to
prevent water damage or flooding in the case of a
power failure.
If the treated water is for human consumption in
terms of the Drinking Water Ordinance, the
ambient temperature must not exceed 25 °C.
If the treated water is solely for technical
applications, the ambient temperature must not
exceed 40 °C.
The transient emissions (voltage peaks, high
frequency electro-magnetic fields, interference
potential, deviation in voltage...) due to the
surrounding electro-installation must not exceed the
maximum values set out in EN 61000-6-4.
The power supply (230 V/50 Hz) and the required
operating pressure must be held constantly. Se-
parate protection for a lack of water is not present
and must - if desired - be fitted on site.

The hard water to be fed-in must always comply
with the Drinking Water Ordinance or the EU
Directive 98/83 EC. The total amount of dissolved
iron and manganese must not exceed 0.1 mg/l!
The hard water to be fed-in must always be free of
air bubbles, if necessary a bleeding device must
be installed.

The maximum pressure of the unit must not be
exceeded (see technical data). If the network pres-
sure is higher, a pressure reducer must be installed
upstream from the unit.
A minimum operating pressure is required to
operate the system (see technical data).
In case of pressure deviations and pressure surges,
the total from the pressure surge and standing pres-
sure must not exceed the nominal pressure. In doing
so, the positive pressure surge must not exceed 2
bar and the negative pressure surge must not be
less than 50% of the resulting flow pressure.
The continual operation of the softening system
with water that contains chlorine and chlorine dioxide
is possible if the concentration of free chlorine /
chlorine dioxide does not exceed 0.5 mg/l.
However, continual operation with water containing
chlorine / chlorine dioxide leads to premature aging
of the ion exchanger resin! A softening system
reduced the concentration of free chlorine and
chlorine dioxide, i.e. the concentration in the drain
of a softening system is normally considerably
lower than in the inlet.

The pipes must be rinsed before the unit is
installed.
It must be checked whether the system must be
downstream of a mineral compound dosing
system to protect against corrosion.
Use non-corrosive pipe materials for the
installation. The chemical corrosion properties in
the combination of different pipe materials (mixed
installation) must be taken into account - in the
flow direction upstream from the softening system
as well.
A protective filter must be installed in the direction
of flow, no more than 1 m
The filter must be functioning before the softening
system is installed. This is the only way to
guarantee that dirt and corrosive products are
not flushed into the softening unit.
Suitable sampling points must be installed up- and
downstream of the unit.
The hose on the safety overflow of the brine
container and the rinsing water hose must be fed
on a gradient to the sewer or into a pumping system.
