Normal fl ight
In calm air the SIGMA 7 best glide is achieved with fully released bra-
kes. Light braking brings the glider to its minimum sink condition.
When fl ying into a headwind, through descending air, or when pro-
ceeding to the next thermal, glide performance will be distinctly im-
proved by appropriate use of the speed system. The SPI is there to
help you do this. See also section «Speed-Performance-Indicator
(SPI)».
Despite the wing's high stability an active fl ying style is recommended
- collapses can be almost completely avoided. 'Active fl ying' means
keeping the lightly-braked glider directly above you, in other words,
countering roll and pitch disturbances.
Turning fl ight
The SIGMA 7 has short and precise braking and steering travel; it re-
acts very directly and progressively to increasing control application.
Steering can be effectively assisted by active weight shift. The angle
of bank can be increased, stabilised or reduced by brake line pressu-
re adjustment at all times.

When fl ying in thermals choose your desired bank angle and circling
radius, and try to let the paraglider turn steadily in this attitude. Out-
side brake should be used to steady the outside wingtip: anything
stronger will slow the wingtip down and lose the glider's good stee-
ring qualities.
A harness that is well suited to SIGMA 7 fl ying behaviour will greatly
help you set up and maintain the most consistent of circles. See also

Caution: When circling your Sigma 7 in thermals make sure
you always have enough airspeed to give you good manoe-
uvrability – don't hold too much outside brake.
Caution: In strongly braked fl ight an outside brake remains
very effective. Turns should therefore be made by releasing
the outside brake.
Tip: If a brake line should break you can control your SIGMA 7
with the rear risers (D-risers).
