Building Instruction Alexandra
The steam launch of the
turn of the century
Introduction
The Alexandra was launched from an English
shipyard around 1900. The boat was designed as
a "family boat" and took well-heeled owners
across rivers and lakes in England.
We have tried to reconstruct a boat that is as true
to the original as possible. In those days, steam
launches were handmade according to the
individual ideas of the interested people. As a
result, no two boats were alike and documentation
is very rare.
You have purchased a model kit that is clearly
different from others in its conception. All wooden
parts are cut out using laser technology. The
visible walls are made of precious wood, which
undoubtedly makes for a particularly attractive
appearance.
Building instruction:
Building the Alexandra is not difficult. What is
required is a little craftsmanship and, above all,
care coupled with patience.
Before you start working, use a soft pencil to
transfer the numbers of all the components onto
the boards that have already been cut out, but do
not separate them out until you are ready to use
them. You will find the corresponding numbers in
the scaled-down illustrations in these building
instructions. Please apply the numbers very
delicately so that they can be removed later with
an eraser. To cut out the plywood parts still
hanging on small bars, it is best to use a thin
balsa knife.
We strongly recommend that you follow the gluing
instructions given. These instructions have been
tried and tested and are unlikely to give rise to any
problems.
Various drives on the market can be used as
steam engine drives. In the construction plan a
steam engine is shown as an example, which is
similar in its dimensions to the steam engine Alex
(order no. 22300) offered by us. In this model,
only steam engines with an upright boiler are
suitable.
For the steam engine you still need the following
accessories:
Gas tank, Order-No. 22313
Filling valve for gas tank, Order-No. 22316
Gascontainer (60% Butan, 40% Propan)800 ml,
Order-No. 60105
Steamoil (no normal machine oil!!!),
Order-No. 60100
