7.D. Two-stage Purifi cation
Perform Two-stage Purifi cation as described in Section 5.C.
8. Pilot-Scale (16EZA) and Production-Scale (16EZB) Holder Unloading
Instructions
8A. Pilot-Scale Holder (16EZA) Unloading Instructions
1. After fi ltration is completed, drain the fl uid from capsule fi lters until the internal pressure on the
fi lter capsules is reduced to zero (0) psi (0 bar).
2. Remove the external connections from the inlet, outlet, and both vents.
3. Turn the hand wheel counterclockwise to raise the movable end plate upward to unseal the
capsule assembly.
4. To unload the system (including capsules and manifolds), grasp the bottom manifold, slide
system forward and lift system off holder from underneath bottom manifold. Repeat with 2nd
stage assembly.
5. Evaluate the risk of your process liquids and determine an appropriate protocol to dispose of
spent capsules and manifolds. Dispose of capsules and manifolds in accordance with federal,
state and local regulations or your local country's laws regulations.
8B. Production-Scale Holder (16EZB) Unloading Instructions
1. After fi ltration is completed, open the vent valves (V1-V4) to relieve the internal pressure until it
is reduced to zero (0) psig (0 bar).
2. Drain any remaining fl uid from the system and remove the external connections from the inlets,
outlets, and vents.
3. Standing to the back of the holder, turn the rotation wheel counterclockwise to pivot the holder
to the horizontal position.
4. Standing to the right of the holder, fully retract the right end plate by rotating the capsule
compression wheel counterclockwise.
5. Standing to either the front or left side of the holder, pull the locking pin out and rotate the
locking bar to the unlocked position.
6. Slide the left end plate to the far left.
7. To unload the system, work from left to right. Standing to the front of the holder, grasp the
handle of the far left capsule and pull towards you while restraining the capsule immediately to
the right. Remove the capsule from the system.
8. Repeat step 7 until all capsules are removed.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Manifolds may remain attached to capsule(s) during unloading.
9. Evaluate the risk of your process liquids and determine an appropriate protocol to dispose of
spent capsules and manifolds. Dispose of capsule(s) and manifolds in accordance with federal,
state and local regulations or your local country's laws and regulations.
