do not use this equipment.
2. Nomenclature
(1) Frame, (2) Stopper, (3) Strap, (4) Adjustment slots, (5) Retrieval sling, (6) Non-
PPE accessory carabiner for retrieval, (7) Slot for cord to prevent ground fall during
retrieval, (8) Retrieval ball, (9) Pulley, (10) Strap attachment screw.
Principal materials: aluminum, steel, nylon, polyester webbing.
3. Inspection, points to verify
Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every
12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your conditions of
usage). WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your PPE more
frequently. Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on
your PPE inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or
individual number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection;
problems, comments, inspector's name and signature.
It is recommended to write the next inspection date on the product.
Before each use
- Check the straps and the safety stitching: look for cuts, cut or loose threads, wear
and damage due to use, to heat, to chemicals...
- Check the metal parts: absence of deformation, cracks, marks, wear, dirt,
abrasion, corrosion.
- Check the condition of the sheave and verify that it is working properly.
- Make sure the screw is securely tightened (correct installation, lack of play...).
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections
to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are
correctly positioned with respect to each other.
4. Compatibility
Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your
application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your friction saver must meet current standards in your
country (e.g. EN 1891 ropes).
The friction saver must be installed on an anchor in the tree, selected according
to the rules of the art of tree care. The strength of the friction saver and anchor
combination is limited by the weaker of the two.
The diameter of the anchor must be greater than 10 cm.
5. Installing the friction saver
See diagrams.
Choose your adjustment slot based on the diameter of the anchor. WARNING: do
not connect anything to the free adjustment slots.
To enable retrieval, the rope splice must be on the side opposite the retrieval
accessory carabiner.
WARNING: the accessory carabiner must only be used to retrieve the friction saver,
and not for any other purpose (do not use it to tether yourself, to connect another
rope...).
Be sure to keep an angle of less than 90° between the two straps at the pulley.
The strap's position on the frame of the friction saver must not go beyond the strap
positioning limit.
6. Installation variations
Single rope installation: make a stopper knot, blocked against the pulley.
WARNING: the stopper knot must include a loop, to which a carabiner is
connected.
Coupling straps for large-diameter anchors: make a girth hitch between the large
loop of the main strap and the small loop of the added strap.
7. Retrieval
Use the supplied retrieval ball.
Install the retrieval ball on the rope splice, then pull the rope on the opposite side.
If your product falls to the ground, carry out a detailed inspection of its condition
and function before any further use.
Retrieval without ground fall
It is recommended to prevent the friction saver from falling to the ground.
Use the special slot in the retrieval sling for attaching a system to prevent the friction
saver from falling.
Do not use this slot for any other purpose.
8. Performance
Working load limit: 250 kg.
Breaking strength: 25 kN.
Hauling efficiency:
F = 1.1 M.
Efficiency: 91 %.
Efficiency is measured with a rope of the minimum diameter compatible with the
device.
9. Spare parts
Replacing the strap: connect the small loop of the new strap to the connection
point, verify the screw is properly tightened.
To ensure proper performance of your device, the screw must be correctly installed
and tightened to the indicated torque. Using a torque wrench is the only way to
verify that the tightening torque is correct.
Make sure the O-ring is present on the screw. WARNING: use only the replacement
straps for NAJA.
MINO (non-PPE accessory carabiner for retrieval): 400 kg maximum strength, 13
mm gate opening.

10. Additional Information
This product meets the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal
protective equipment. The EU declaration of conformity is available at Petzl.com.
- Make sure that the anchor point is correctly positioned, in order to limit the risk
and the length of a fall. Be sure to stay below the anchor point to reduce the risk of
damaging the product in case of a fall.
- The direction of the load is given by the direction of the rope.
- You must have a rescue plan and the means to rapidly implement it in case of
difficulties encountered while using this equipment.
- When the anchor device is used as part of a fall-arrest system, the user must be
equipped with a means of limiting the impact force, exerted on the user when the
fall is arrested, to a maximum value of 6 kN.
- The maximum load that can be transmitted to the structure is approximately 18
kN. The friction saver may elongate when under load: 100 cm.
- Pulley efficiency can vary depending on the condition of the rope: wet and/or icy.
- Do not use this equipment as a means of hoisting.
- The anchor point for the system should preferably be located above the user's
position and should meet the requirements of the EN 795 standard (12 kN
minimum strength).
- In a fall-arrest system, it is essential to check the required clearance below the
user before each use, in order to avoid hitting the ground or an obstacle in case
of a fall.
- A fall-arrest harness is the only device allowable for supporting the body in a
fall-arrest system.
- When using multiple items of equipment, a dangerous situation can arise in which
the safety function of an item of equipment can be affected by the safety function
of another item of equipment.
- WARNING - DANGER: ensure that your products do not rub against abrasive or
sharp surfaces.
- Users must be medically fit for activities at height. WARNING: inert suspension in
a harness can result in serious injury or death.
- The Instructions for Use for each item of equipment used in conjunction with this
product must be followed.
- The Instructions for Use must be provided to the user of this equipment, in the
language of the country where the equipment is used.
- Make sure the markings on the product are legible.
When to retire your equipment:
WARNING: an exceptional event can lead you to retire a product after only one
use, depending on the type and intensity of usage and the environment of usage
(harsh environments, marine environments, sharp edges, extreme temperatures,
chemicals...).
A product must be retired when:
- It is over 10 years old and made of plastic or textiles.
- It has been subjected to a major fall or load.
- It fails to pass inspection. You have any doubt as to its reliability.
- You do not know its full usage history.
- When it becomes obsolete due to changes in legislation, standards, technique or
incompatibility with other equipment...
Destroy these products to prevent further use.
