14.2 Cooling Liquid Heater, Type 2 (Accessory)
Checking and Filling Liquid into the Cooling System
Check all connections. Fill the cooling system with cooling liquid. In order to remove air from the cooling system and ensure its effective operation, start the engine and let it run for 10 minutes. Stop the engi-
ne.
Make sure that there is no air and no leaks in the system. Tighten all connections. Let the engine cool down. Check the level of liquid in the system. If necessary, top up the liquid consisting of 50 % of glycol
and 50 % of water.
Electrical Connections
Lay the cable to the heater terminals so that it does not touch hot or moving parts of the electric power generator unit. It is recommended to use protective sheathing for the cable.
Check of Assembly prior to Connection to the Electric Network
Prior to connecting the heater to the mains check for compliance of the mains voltage to the voltage specified on the nameplate, and make sure that the mains allows connection of this type of load.
Otherwise, and in case of connection errors, damage of the heater may occur. Make sure the corresponding terminal of the electric power generator unit is connected to a serviceable and correctly assem-
bled grounding device.
Connection to Electric Mains and Functional Check
Attention: Prior to switching on the heater make sure the cooling system is filled with the cooling liquid. Never switch on the circulation pump dry, without cooling liquid.
Perform the following sequence of operations:
For a second time check all the connection (electrical / hydraulic).
Prior to switching on the system make sure all isolating valves are open.
In order to remove air from the heater and the circulation pump, start the engine and warm it up for 10 minutes, after which turn on the heater.
Remove air from the pump.
Connect the system to the electric mains. At the manufacturing plant the thermostat is set for 50 °C.
Check the temperature of the inlet and outlet pipes of the heater (approximately after 1 hour's operation). The output pipe should be considerably warmer than the
incoming pipe.
If the incoming pipe of the heater is hot, it means the liquid is not circulating properly.
After the liquid starts circulating adjust the thermostat for the required temperature.
During putting into operation it may happen that the shaft rotates slowly. With the pump switched off it should rotate by the effort of hand only. Switch off the system
from the electric mains and close the isolating valves. With the help of a screwdriver release the screw on the cover so that the pump starts rotating freely. Open the
isolating valves and wait 2 – 3 minutes before starting the engine in order to equalize the pressures.
Use Environment
Putting Heater into Operation
The heater may function continuously and be switched on at the required time with the help of the timer switch. At the manufacturing plant the thermostat temperature
is set to 50 °C. You may change this temperature to any desired temperature within the range of 0 to 80 °C by rotating the screw in the base plate of the heater
mounting with the help of a screwdriver.
Repeated Switching on of the Protection Thermal Relay
In case of overheating (for instance, caused by liquid leak from the circuit) the protection thermal relay switches off the electric power supply of the heating element
and the circulation pump.
After elimination of the overheating cause the thermal relay should be switched on manually. For this it is necessary to turn off the plug in the protection casing of the
heater and press the thermal relay button.
