14.2 Cooling Liquid Heater, Type 2 (Accessory)
Characteristics
General Description
The heater is a compact system with the circulation pump built into the internal combustion engine cooling system. The heater is designed for preheating cooling liquid of electric power generator units.
The heater consists of a heating element controlled by the thermostat or temperature regulator, protection thermal relay with manual restart and a circulation pump. During operation the cooling liquid is
sucked by the circulation pump into the heater and returned back into the cooling system circuit in the farthest point from the liquid intake point. The pump ensures quick and uniform heating of the engi-
ne. There is a pressure regulator inside the heater which controls switching on of the heating element and the circulation pump. The protection relay with manual restart switches off the pump and the
heating element when the liquid is overheated.
Heater
The body of the heater is made fully of aluminum.
Heating Element
The protection casing is made of high-quality steel INCOLOY 800 and has a specific heat transfer of 7.5 W/cm2. The heating element is made in the form of a coil and ensures compact size and good
conditions of heat transfer.
Make versions:
• Power of 1500 W with the voltage of 120 V.
• Power of 3000 W with the voltage of 208 V.
• Power of 1000 - 1500 - 2000 - 2500 - 3000 W with the voltage of 240 V.
The heating element is equipped with brass terminals.
Sealing: of material FPM DF801 <VITON>.
The holes in the heating element body are designed to fit the sensing elements of the thermostat and the protection relay.
Protection Relay
The protection relay protects the electric power generator unit from overheating in case of leak of the cooling liquid or a fault of the thermostat. It prevents damage of the heater and emergence of hazar-
dous situations. After its operation, it is necessary to turn it on manually.
Operating temperature: 110 °C. Switching capacity: 25 A.
Thermostat
Manual adjustment of temperature from 0 to 80 °C. At the manufacturing plant the thermostat is adjusted to a temperature of 50 °C. Switching capacity: 16 A.
Circulation Pump
Models UPS 15-50 (115 V, 50 Hz and 230 V, 50 Hz) are designed for pumping liquids with the temperature from 10 to 110 °C and maximum pressure of 10 bar. It is possible to use a mixture of 50%
of water and 50% of ethylene glycol. The increased viscosity of the cooling liquid may lead to the reduction of the pump capacity. There are 3 speeds of rotation.
Low power consumption and low noise level. It requires no maintenance.
Maximum Permissible Temperature of Cooling Liquid
The maximum permissible temperature of the cooling liquid depends on the ambient temperature.
