COUNTERSINKING AND CENTRE
DRILLING
The column drilling machine can be used for
countersinking and centre drilling. Note that
countersinking is done at low speed and centre
drilling at high speed.
DRILLING IN METAL
Metal workpieces must be firmly clamped, we
recommend using one of our machine vices.
Never attempt to hold the workpiece with just
your hands. The cutting edges can fasten in
the workpiece and pull it round, which can
cause serious personal injury. The drill can
break if the rotating workpiece hits the column.
The workpiece must be firmly and carefully
clamped. The slightest rocking, rotation or
shifting can result in not only out of round and
overlarge holes, but can also risk breaking the
drill. A wooden pad can be used to prevent flat
workpieces from rotating. Uneven workpieces
that cannot be laid flat on the table must be
clamped with a suitable vice, clamp and spacer.
DRILLING IN WOOD
Twist drills for metal can be also be used to drill
in wood, but drills specially intended for wood
are to be preferred. Do not use twist drills, they
work at high speed and can lift the workpiece
off the table an pull it round in the direction
of rotation. The table must be set so that
the drill goes through the centre hole when
drilling through holes. Drill at low speed when
the drill starts to cut, to reduce the risk of the
wood splitting. Use a wooden pad between the
workpiece and table, partly to reduce the risk
of the workpiece splitting, and partly to protect
the tip of the drill.
WARNING!
Chips and sawdust can be harmful to health
– use a dust extractor when drilling in
wood. Always wear a dust mask if the work
generates dust.

FEEDING
Turn the handle on the feed shaft smoothly,
with just enough force. Stop the feeding and
pull back the drill now and then to break the
metal shavings and lift them out of the hole.
Feeding too fast can overload and stop the
motor, cause the drive belts to slip, damage
the workpiece, or break the drill. Feeding
too slowly can risk overheating the drill and
burning the workpiece.
MAINTENANCE
CLEANING
WARNING!
Switch off the product and pull out the plug
from the power point before cleaning or
maintenance.
NOTE:
Do not discard oily and greasy rags or
residual oil and grease together with
household waste. Recycle toxic waste in
accordance with local regulations.
•
Clean the ventilation openings on the
product at regular intervals.
•
Wipe the product and accessories with a
cloth moistened with soapy water. Do not
use abrasive detergents or solvents, or
detergent that contains petrol, carbon
tetrachloride, chlorinated solvents, or
detergent containing ammoniac or
ammonia, as they can damage the plastic
parts on the product.
•
To avoid damaging the motor as a result
of the accumulation of chips, clean the
motor (especially its ventilation openings)
at regular intervals with compressed air.
•
Make sure no water or any other liquid
gets into the product. Regrease all bright,
untreated surfaces after cleaning or
maintenance. The bright surfaces on the
column and table should be greased at
regular intervals. Use standard, acid-free
grease.
•
Clean the product after it has been used.
