14. Range

The field range, i.d. the range at visual contact between sender and receiver, is 100m under
optimum conditions. Walls and even reinforced concrete constructions can be penetrated,
although the range is reduced accordingly.
A reduced range can have the following causes:
• High frequency interferences of all kinds
• Constructions of any kind or vegetation
• The distance of the sender or receiver to conductive areas or objects (even to human
bodies or the earth) influences the radiation pattern and thus the range.
• Wide band interferences in city areas can reach levels which reduce the signal-to-noise
ratio in the entire frequency band, thus also reducing the range.
• Devices with adjacent operating frequencies can also affect the receiver.
• Poorly insulated or openly operated computers can radiate into the receiver and reduce the
range.
