For connecting the conventional intrinsically safe binary control circuits the so-called
2:1 procedure is applied. This provides for the transmission of two signals via a bifilar
conductor. The precondition for this procedure is that the sensors/mechanical con-
tacts are equipped with a polarity protecting diode and that one of two sensors/mecha-
nical contacts is operated in a polarized way. For the connection of sensors or
mechanical contacts the possible connections are shown in the following picture; ter-
minals 3 and 4 are given as examples.
