1. Safety Notes

In these instructions you will find four different symbols (see
below) – the first provides important information about your
new motor and how to use it, the second draws your atten-
tion to possible damage and / or environmental hazards,
the third warns you against possible accidents and severe
damage, including possible injuries to your person. The
„torque" symbol marks sections where a screw connection
may only be tightened using a torque wrench. The torque
value given must be adhered to. Whenever you see one
of these symbols, there is a risk that one of the hazards
described may actually occur! Every warning given is in a
special box with a gray background for emphasis.
Explanation of symbols
Note: This symbol provides information
about how to handle the product or work with
the respective section in the installation ma-
nual, these should always be consulted.
Caution: This symbol warns you against ma-
king mistakes which can result in damage to
material or create an environmental hazard.
Danger: This symbol stands for a possible
danger to your life and / or health, if relevant
instructions are ignored or not correctly follo-
wed. It also draws your attention to the fact
that corresponding preventive measures
must always be taken beforehand.
Important screw connection! When tigh-
tening up a threaded connection (screws), the
exact torque must be adhered to. The correct
tightening torque is either shown on the part in
question, or you will find it in the table of (tor-
que) tightening values on page 20 of this instal-
lation manual. You must use a torque wrench
to obtain the proper torque. If you do not have
a torque wrench you must entrust a specialist
to do this work! Parts which are not correctly
tightened can break or become loose! This can
cause severe falls and accidents!

2. Introduction

This installation manual describes the installation of
the Pendix motor in a bicycle. So it's primarily meant
for specialists, mechanics, technicians and repair
workshops/manufacturers.
Carry out the assembly steps described in the-
se instructions only. Do not undertake additio-
nal work – no other steps may be undertaken or
changes made to the system. Do not take apart
or open components! Improper and unprofessi-
onal mounting of the motor and manipulations
to battery, charging unit and motor involve great
danger to health and damage of material. In
any such cases, Pendix refuses to accept any
responsibility for damage or accidents caused.
For installation of the Pendix in a bicycle or
onto a bicycle frame, expert technical backg-
round and experience are required, as well
as special tools and equipment. Therefore,
only carry out these work steps if you have
the necessary knowledge, tools / equipment
and abilities. This is why Pendix recom-
mends that installation be carried out by a
specialist or specialized technicians. Read
the manual carefully and follow all instruc-
tions step by step. Pay special attention to
the Safety Notes. Always keep the installati-
on manual in a safe place, and pass them on
to all other persons working with a Pendix
system. Although, basically, the Pendix can
be installed into every type of bicycle, this
may not be possible in very special cases
where a frame has an individual form or does
not meet standard requirements.
The Pendix is not designed for installatoin
and effective use in bicycles for children and
juveniles up to the age of 14 years!
BEFORE mounting a Pendix system into your
bicycle, get a bicycle specialist or manufactu-
rer to check whether the frame is suitable for
this purpose. It must have the necessary sta-
bility/strength and meet the requirements of
DIN EN ISO 4210:2014 (German Industrial
standard, see internet under: Cycles – Safety
requirements for bicycles). [DIN = Deutsches
Institut für Normung (German Standards Insti-
tute), EN = European Norm, ISO = Internatio-
nal Organization for Standardization]
The Pendix motor is not designed for use in
areas subject to explosion hazard or
equivalent.
When a Pendix system has been installed into your bicycle,
it becomes a Pedelec. As the support by the electric Pendix
motor is only active up to 25 km / h or 15 ½ mph, and the
permanent nominal power does not exceed 250W, the Pe-
delec legally remains in the bicycle category, so that most
regulations apply for it as for a normal bicycle. In the case
of a bicycle with installed Pendix, the following regulations
must be complied with: standard DIN EN 15194:2012 and
European Machine Directive 2006/42/EU.
We have designed your Pendix motor in strict
adherence to all safety regulations. In spite of
all this, a residual risk will always remain.

3. Correct use

The Pendix is has been designed ONLY to be an auxiliary elec-
tric motor mounted into a bicycle. The electric support is ONLY
available to support the rider of the bicycle when he activates the
pedals. Once the motor (support system) has been installed in
the bicycle, the whole system together is then called a Pedelec.
