MOUNTING THE WHEEL RING AND THE WHEEL SENSOR

9.1

Mounting the wheel ring

Two wheel rings are available, a small one with an internal diameter of 254 mm and an outer diameter of 350 mm (12
notches) and a large one with an internal diameter of 324 mm and an outer diameter of 420 mm (16 notches). The
wheel ring and sensor are preferably mounted on the inside of a non-driven tractor wheel (1).
- First mount the bolts, spacer bushes and nuts on the wheel ring to be mounted.
- Place the drilling jig (2) over the four long bolts in the ring (3) and use the circles on the drilling jig to centre the ring
relative to the rim edge, the hub hole or other circular shapes on the wheel. You can do that on the inside or on the
outside of the wheel.
- Set out the bolt holes (4), centre them and drill the holes with a 10.5 mm bit.
- Mount the ring on the inside of the wheel and adjust the ring as straight as possible using the nuts and check nuts
(5).
If for any reason it is not possible to mount the wheel ring on a rim, then choose some other regularly revolving point
on the wheel opposite of which you can mount the sensor. Note that at least 50 pulses per 20 metres travelled must
be generated.
9.2

Mounting the sensor

- Find a mounting point for the sensor that moves with the wheel and that lies as closely as possible to the wheel ring.
That can be for instance the bolts on the stub axle (6) or a place for a clamping bracket on the round part of the
wheel axle (7).
- If there is no suitable bolt or clamping connection, then drill centre points in the wheel or stub axle and tap a thread
in them.
NOTE: Ensure that there is proper support for the clamping bracket with at least two bolts, so that the sensor does
not vibrate and cannot move away from the ring.
CAUTION:
The sensor must never touch the wheel ring notches!
- If necessary, use the supplied strip to make a stiff bracket and mount the sensor on it.
- Mount the sensor in the clamping bracket (8) and eliminate any wobble of the wheel ring using the nuts and check
nuts (5).
- Adjust the clearance between the sensor and the notches to 3 to 4 mm by sliding the sensor in the bracket.
- Install the cable to the tractor cab, tie up the cable and connect the plug to the control box.
NOTE: Ensure that the wheel sensor cable is never drawn taut at full wheel deflection.
