5. Using the Multimeter

5.1 Fitting the batteries - Replacing the batteries
In order for your multimeter to operate correctly, it must be
fitted with two 1.5 V micro batteries (type AAA = UM 4). When
the battery replacement symbol appears on the display, the
battery must be replaced. Proceed as follows:
- Isolate your multimeter from the measuring circuit,
- disconnect the measuring leads from the multimeter,
- switch it off and
- use a suitable screwdriver for recessed-head screws to un-
10
screw the fixing screw in the battery compartment cover.
- Carefully prise the cover off,
- remove the discharged batteries from the battery holder and
- replace the batteries by fresh batteries of the same type,
- having replaced the battery, place the battery holder in the
battery compartment and
- close the battery compartment again carefully.
- When closing the battery compartment, make sure that the
(red/black) battery-holder wires are not trapped.
Warning!
Under no circumstances should the measuring appliance be used
while it is open - risk of fatal injury!
Never leave discharged batteries in the measuring appliance as
even leak-proof batteries can corrode, releasing chemicals which
might be detrimental to health and could destroy the battery
compartment.
Old batteries must be handled as toxic waste and disposed of in
an appropriate, environmentally-friendly manner. Special collec-
tion containers are provided for this purpose at specialist elec-
trical dealers and at recycling points.
5.2 Connecting the measuring leads
When making measurements, only ever use the supplied meas-
uring leads and/or adapter/leads which are available for the
DMM as optional items and are therefore designed for it. Before
making any connection, check the state of the connectors and/or
test probes and make sure that the insulation is not damaged.
The supplied measuring leads are approved for voltages up to
1000 V max. Your ME-32 multimeter is designed for voltages up
