c) Measurement-function switch (6) or rotary switch
Warning!
Under no circumstances move the rotary switch while making a
measurement because this can destroy the multimeter (contact-
breaking sparks) and cause risk of fatal injury to you in case of
voltages in excess of 25 V AC rms or 35 V DC.
The various measuring ranges are laid out in a semicircle and are
selected by turning the switch (clockwise):
=~V
= Measurement of direct and alternating voltages
(auto range)
(•)Ω
= Continuity test and resistance measurement (auto
range for resistance measurement only)
-<-
= Diode test (no auto range)
hFE
= Transistor test (no auto range)
TEMP
= Temperature measurement (no auto range)
4 nF
= Capacitance measurement up to 4 nF max. (= nano-
farad; no auto range)
400nF
= Capacitance measurement up to 400 nF max. (no
auto range)
=~4mA
= Measurement of direct and alternating current up
to 4 mA max. (no auto range)
=~400mA = Measurement of direct and alternating current up
to 400 mA max. (no auto range)
14
TEMP
CAP
=~20A
= Measurement of direct and alternating current up
to 20 A max. (no auto range)
d) 20 A socket
The red measuring lead must be plugged into this socket to
measure direct or alternating current up to 20 A max.
Warning!
Under no circumstances should the rotary switch be set to vol-
tage measurement (=~V) when measuring current.
e) mA socket
The red measuring lead must be plugged into this socket to
measure direct or alternating current up to 400 mA max. with
the measurement-function switch (6) set to the 4 mA or 400
mA position for current measurement.
f) COM = Common socket
For all measurements except transistor testing and tempera-
ture or capacitance measurement, the black measuring lead
must be plugged into this socket (common socket denotes
negative or "-" or frame earth socket).
g) V/Ω - socket
The red measuring lead must be plugged into this socket if vol-
tage measurements, continuity tests, diode tests or resistance
measurements are to be performed.
5.3.4 Display - Explanation and symbols
a) Digital display
The display can indicate values up to "3999" with automatic
polarity indication ("-" in case of negative voltages or reverse
polarity). There are also three decimal-point positions.
