8. Rechargeable Battery/Battery or Mains Operation
a) General Information
Important!
The "PDR-4" recorder is intended for operation with 2 rechargeable NiMH batteries. They are
charged upon connection to the USB port of a computer or the included mains adapter.
Alternatively, common non-rechargeable batteries may be used as well. In this case, always
observe that the recorder must NOT be connected to the computer or the included mains
adapter via USB; this would cause charging.
Non-rechargeable batteries must not be charged. It may cause fire or explosion!
b) Operation with Rechargeable Batteries, Recharging the Batteries
• Open the cover on the back and insert two rechargeable NiMH batteries, type AA/Mignon, in the correct
polarity.
We recommend using NiMH batteries with a low self-discharge rate.
• Attach the cover again and let it latch.
• To charge the inserted battery, fold open the transparent rubber cover on the bottom of the recorder.
Then connect the miniature USB port (24) to a free USB port on your computer (or to a USB hub with its
own mains adapter) or to the USB port of the included mains adapter using the included USB cable.
Switch on the computer or plug the mains adapter into a mains socket.

Depending on capacity of the batteries used, charging will take several hours.
If you use quick-charging capable NiMH batteries, charge the batteries in a suitable charger
instead of the recorder to save time.
• If the battery display at the lower right of the display stops flashing, the batteries are fully charged.
• Switch off the recorder by putting the slider "POWER" (18) in the "OFF" position.
• Unplug the USB cable from the recorder and re-attach the transparent cover. Unplug the mains adapter
from the mains socket.
