6) Once the device's "break-in" phase has ended, use it as you would a car's engine, avoiding abrupt heating by
putting in too much fuel.
After testing the proper working of the appliance, some days from the installation, it is possible to proceed
with the construction of its aesthetic covering.

NORMAL OPERATION

The fireplace's rated heating power is : see chap. 17.
This power is reached with a minimum draught (depression) of: see chap. 17
The regulator on the front of the device (Picture 1 – Picture 2 - Picture 3) allows you to regulate the flow of heat. This
should be opened according to heating requirements. Best combustion (with minimum emissions) is attained when
you load wood with most of the air for combustion passing through the secondary air regulator.
You must never put too much fuel in the hearth (see max quantity in the table below).
Excessive fuel and combustion air could cause overheating and therefore damage to the hearth. The
warranty does not cover damage caused by overheating.
You should therefore always keep the hearth's door closed (lowered) to avoid the "forge" effect.

Secondary air
This is a fireplace for intermittent operation.
The intensity of combustion and therefore the thermal performance of your fireplace depends on not only the
regulation of air for combustion but also on the stack itself. Good draught in the stack requires lesser air for
combustion, while poor draught requires a more careful regulation of air for combustion.
You can tell if combustion is good if the smoke leaving the stack is transparent.
White smoke indicates the device has not been properly regulated or the wood is too wet; grey or black smoke,
instead, indicates the wood is struggling to combust (more secondary air is required).
12.

OPERATION DURING TRANSITION PERIODS

During a transition period when external temperatures are higher, it is possible combustion gases in the flue cannot
be fully sucked up if there is a sudden increase in temperature. Exhaust gases cannot be fully discharged (intense
smell of gas). In this case you need to shake the grating more frequently and increase air for combustion. You should
then load a small amount of fuel to enable faster burning (more flames) and draught in the flue will stabilize.
Make sure all the openings used for cleaning and the stack's connections are all air-tight.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

You should only use spare parts approved and supplied by La Nordica. Please contact your specialized retailer if you
require spare parts. You must not make any changes to the device!!!
13.1.

CLEANING THE FLUE

The hearth is not damaged providing it used in normal conditions.
The device should be fully cleaned at least once a year or whenever required (operating problems with poor yield).
Excessive build-up of soot can compromise the discharge of smoke and cause fires in the flue. Cleaning should only
ever be carried out when the device is cold.
The device should be carried out by a chimney sweeper who can also inspect the flue (for any build-up of soot, etc.).
Before cleaning, the ash drawer, grating and smoke deflector should be removed to encourage soot to fall down.
The deflector is easy to remove as it not screwed down.
It should be returned to its place after cleaning.
ATTENTION: Removing the deflector causes strong depression, leading to overly fast combustion, excessive
consumption of wood causing the device to overheat.
