General instructions for use

When using the PHE3... voltage detector, the following instructions must be
observed – life hazard!
2.1 Only use PHE3... voltage detectors that are rated for the nominal voltage and nominal frequency of the electrical
installation (see rating plate, chapter 5).
2.2 Check the PHE3... voltage detector for proper operation before and after it is used.
2.3 The test electrode must contact bare metal conductors; if required, it must penetrate coats of paint.
2.4 Only contact the handle of the PHE3... voltage detector and operate it from a safe location so that the required
safety distance from all live parts of the installation is maintained.
2.5 When making contact by means of the test electrodes of the PHE3... voltage detector, keep them as far away as
possible from other live or earthed parts of the installation.
PHE3... voltage detectors consist of several elements (see chapter 4 and Figs. 2 and 3).
2.6 The PHE3... voltage detector is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and may also be used in wet weather conditions.
However, in this case, it must not be permanently energised for more than 1 minute.
2.7 The position of the voltage detector does not affect its proper electrical function. The operating position depends
on the local conditions of the installation.
2.8 Observe the prescribed limit values of –25°C to +55°C (temperature) and 20% to 96% (humidity) when using and sto-
ring the PHE3... voltage detector.
2.9 Wipe dry condensed PHE3... voltage detectors (e.g. due to extreme temperature fluctuations) prior to use.
2.10 Occasionally check under operating voltage conditions (lowest voltage of the nominal voltage range) whether the vol-
tage detector responds.
2.11 Please retain these instructions for use with the PHE3... voltage detector for future reference!
