Insert the plug of the twisted pair cable 18 for Ether-
net networks into the network connection port of
your PC if you have chosen the crossover assign-
ment
for
the
Ethernet
EXAConnecT.

For a 1:1 connection, insert the plug into a free net-
work outlet of your firm network.
Start your PC.
Insert the mains plug of the mains cable 19 into the
mains outlet. After a short time, the yellow LED indi-
cator 5 lights and encircling bars appear on the dis-
play 1. After a few seconds, the green LED indicator
4 shows by way of a steady light that the
EXAConnecT is ready for operation.
Setting of the Network Parameters
The EXAConnecT is delivered with the IP address
10.10.10.10. This IP address should no longer be
used in network operation.
Crossover Assignment
For the exchange of data between your PC and the
EXAConnecT access point, your PC must be set to a
static IP address. An IP address is a number issued
by a computer in the framework of an Internet proto-
col (IP), under which this computer can be accessed
in the network.
Activate the menu "Properties" on the PC via, for ex-
ample, "Network Environment/Network Connection" or
"LAN" (local area connection).
Select the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) that is linked to
the network connection or the network adapter to
which you have connected the EXAConnecT. Mark
this Internet protocol. Activate the menu "Properties".
When, in the menu "Properties," the item "Obtain IP
address automatically" is active, activate the item "Use
the following IP address". If this item is already active,
record the numbers that follow below it. You will
need this address later when you want to return your
PC to the initial situation.
Enter the numerical sequence 10.10.10.5 after "IP
address" and the numerical sequence 255.255.255.0
after "Subnet mask". Confirm this and the following se-
lection window by, for example, clicking on the but-
ton "OK" with the mouse.
In some cases, it may be necessary to route the
EXAConnecT. On your PC, start Programs > MS
DOS Prompt. Enter the command
route add 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.5 -p
and press the Enter key.

After a short time, a security certificate is opened and
you should confirm it in order to have available all
functions of the EXAConnecT.
Take care that, when you save data of the
EXAConnecT, no data on your PC is overwritten.
The Java applet is loaded. You now have access to
the EXAConnecT access point.

the power supply. The housing of the tool must be
completely voltage-free, because, otherwise, there
exists the danger of electric shock.
Remove the maintenance cover plate 2 on the volt-
age-free EXAConnecT by unscrewing the two small
bottom Phillips screws 3.

Connect the RS232 interface 20 of the EXAConnecT,
via a null modem cable that is at most 3 m long, with
the RS232 interface (COM port) of the network com-
puter.
The baud rate of the RS232 interface is fixed at 9600
baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit (8N1). The
RS232 interface uses no handshake at all. It is con-
structed as DCE (data communication equipment)
and is non-potential-free.
Reconnect the tool to the power supply. Do not
touch any parts of the opened tool! You could
suffer electric shock.
On your network computer, start the program "Hy-
perTerminal" (e.g., Start > Programs > Accessories >
Communications > HyperTerminal).
Enter a name. Confirm this entry.
