3.5.13 AC balance (%)
Setting of the balance [28] is carried out as described in Chapter 3.5.1. The
balance option is only available in conjunction with the alternating current welding
with TIG. It ranges from -80 % to +80 % and enables you to influence the arc and
the penetration as well as the cleaning when welding aluminium in a very large
range. In the medium setting (50 %) the negative and positive welding current is
timely evenly distributed. With increasing negative values, the proportion of
negative welding current increases (to -80 %) and the positive proportion
decreases. As a result, the arc is slimmer and creates a deeper penetration with
lower electrode load. With increasing positive values, the proportion of positive
welding current increases (to +80 %) and the negative proportion decreases. The
cleaning of the welding bath is improved by the plus proportion. The arc is wider
and the application of heat is shallower. It is recommended to use as high a
negative value as possible but with sufficient cleaning.
3.5.14 AC frequency Hz
Setting of the frequency Hz [29] is carried out as described in Chapter 3.5.1. The
frequency option is only available in conjunction with the alternating current
welding with TIG. The value for frequency specifies how quickly the changes of
the output polarity take place. The possible settings range from 30 Hz to 300 Hz.
For example, with a frequency of 200 Hz the polarity change at the output socket
from plus to minus and back again occurs every 5 ms (=0.005 seconds). The
welding current is dropped to zero at each change of polarity, re-ignited in the
opposite direction and then raised to the set welding current. The sinus form
used by the processor controlled process leads to a considerable reduction in
noise and welding benefits when alternating current welding.
A special feature of TIG alternating current welding also allows you to select the
REHM patented frequency automation . To activate, set the frequency to "Aut"
which is found below 30 Hz
The frequency automation developed by REHM combines the benefits of a very
stable arc in the lower welding current range with the advantages of a high
electrode resilience in the upper current range. The alternating current frequency
is adapted automatically to the current value of the welding current.
Usually, the setting of a frequency is not necessary as the frequency automation
is selected. Only in application-specific special cases in which a frequency is
required which deviates from the frequency automation this setting option offers
unlimited flexibility.
3.5.15 Digital display
The 4-digit digital display [26] enables a rapid and easy to view display of the
welding parameters, all relevant information and error messages (see Chapter
7). The display LEDs [25] to the right of the digital display show the selected
measuring unit by lighting up.
