Optimised gas
As a further contribution to the principle of the digital power sources, the Digital
flow due to
Gas Control once again achieves improved welding results and a further increase
stored expert
of operating convenience. Based on stored expert knowledge the digital power
knowledge
sources tune all parameters to perfectly suit the welding process. This only re-
quires the entry of the following data on the operating panel:

The Digital Gas Control is a digital gas flowrate control for the VR 1500 and VR
7000 wire feeders making now also use of these data. In addition to constantly
monitoring and controlling all parameters for welding current and wire feeding,
the shielding gas flowrate is now also dosed permanently.
Shielding gas
The digital gas flowrate control allows for the first time an exact dosing of the
consumption as
shielding gas flowrate for the respective welding task. A sufficient gas protection
required
of high-quality weld seams is thus ensured permanently. And there only flows as
much shielding gas as actually requiring the process.
So this results in a huge saving potential that is based on the fact that welding
rejects caused by insufficient gas protection can be avoided and that an exact
dosing is ensured. Short tool changing times in job mode are achieved by the
possibility of storing the gas flowrate setpoints for each individual job separately.
Constant and
In the past the shielding gas flowrate set at the pressure reducer seldom remai-
stable gas pro-
ned completely stable, the Digital Gas Control now ensures a constant and sta-
tection
ble gas flow. The Digital Gas Control is equipped with a sensor and an electric
control valve. The power source continuously evaluates the measuring signal of
the sensor and triggers the control valve accordingly. Also if a closed-circuit pi-
ping exposed to frequent pressure variations is used, the gas flow remains con-
stant. In addition to the extensive process coordination by the power source, the
welding result is further improved by a constant and stable gas protection.
Correcting fac-
The shielding gas flowrate requested is determined in the setup menu of the
tor for shielding
power source. Depending on the selected filler material, the power source tunes
gases used
the flowrate measurement to the shielding gas used. If shielding gases are used
other than the preprogrammed, it is possible to modify the correction factors for
setting the control. This ensures that the requested shielding gas flowrate is by
all means kept constant for the material types to be selected.
Gas saving func-
Before the gas flowrate control is able to measure an actual value which is adjus-
tion
ted subsequently, there has to be a gas flow. For this the control valve opens by a
determined value, which corresponds approximately to the gas flowrate expec-
ted.
If there was no optimisation for the first opening, the control valve would have to
open wide in order to prevent an improper gas protection. This would result in an
increased shielding gas consumption until the control is actually started.
