Note
In cold weather, the engine can be difficult to start. In
such a case, turn the switch key to the "HEATER" posi-
tion for 10-20 seconds, and then release and repeat
step 4 to start the engine.
Under normal conditions, before starting, turn the start
key to the "ON" position. The oil alarm lamp then turns
on. After the engine is started (the start key is stopped
at ON position), the oil alarm lamp is off. If the oil alarm
lamp remains on, stop and check the oil level.
WARNING
If the start motor keeps running for a long time, the bat-
tery voltage drops, which may cause the motor to burn
out.
Engine running
Note
Make sure the belt is properly tensioned. If the belt is too
tight, it will cause an excessive load during start-up,
stretching and premature wear of the belt, and even
damage to the output shaft or other accidents. If the belt
is too loose, the belt will slip at high speed or with heavy
loads.
1
After starting the engine, run at no load for about 3
minutes to warm up the machine.
2
Move the speed control handle to the desired speed
position and tighten the handle clockwise.
WARNING
When the engine is running, the muffler will be very hot.
Do not touch it!
Do not refuel the engine while it is running.
CAUTION
Do not run the engine when the ambient temperature is
above +40°C or below -10°C.
Operating the engine at high altitudes can cause power
drops, high exhaust temperatures, large running noise
and other exceptions.
Note
The first 20 hours of use is the breaking-in period of a
new engine. Do not run it at full load. Instead, run it in at
50% load for 20 hours, and change the oil.
If the engine is exhibits abnormal sound, jitters, poor op-
eration, color change in the exhaust gas (continuous
blue, white or black smoke), or similar signs, stop the
engine and check the cause of the problem.
Stopping the engine
1. Before stopping the engine, move the engine speed
lever to the low speed position and then run the en-
gine for 3 minutes without a load.
2. Lift the shutdown sheet metal up until the engine is
turned off.

3. When using the electric start mode, turn the start
key to "OFF" position.
Illustration B
4. Turn the fuel cock to the OFF position. Slowly pull
the starter handle until you feel resistance.
ATTENTION
When stopping the engine, gradually reduce the load.
Do not stop the engine suddenly, or else the engine
temperature can rise abnormally.
Transportation
The engine should be cooled for at least 15 minutes be-
fore shipment. After the engine has cooled down, move
it to the transport vehicle.
DANGER
Fuel or spilled fuel can ignite spontaneously. Keep the
engine level during transportation to prevent fuel spill-
age.
WARNING
Risk of personal injury or damage! Consider the weight
of the appliance during transport.
DANGER
Risk of explosion! As long as there is fuel in the fuel
tank, the engine must not be stored near fire or electrical
appliances.
WARNING
Risk of personal injury or damage! Consider the weight
of the appliance when storing it.
Note
 The engine should not be stored in a place with high
air humidity to prevent rust.
 Even if the tank is empty, the fuel cock should be
closed to prevent leakage.
 Place the engine horizontally, otherwise oil or fuel
may spill.
 Cover the engine to protect it from dust.
1. Change the oil.
Note
The engine must be cooled for at least 1/2 hour.
Avoid water seeping into the muffler or air filter, other-
wise it will cause damage to the engine.
2. Clean the outer surface of the engine.
3. Repair damaged paint and slightly apply oil on sur-
faces prone to rust.
4. Pull the starter rope slowly until you feel resistance.
5. Slowly release the starter rope.
6. Store in a dry place.
Care and maintenance
DANGER
Cool the engine before starting any maintenance and
care work. To avoid risks, all repairs and replacement of
spare parts may only be carried out by the authorized
Customer Service personnel.
Before doing work with the appliance:
1
Place the appliance on an even surface.
2
Disconnect the power supply.
Checking the oil level
1. Turn off the engine switch.
2. Place the appliance in a flat floor.
3. Remove the refueling bolt with the dipstick and wipe
the dipstick.
Illustration C
4. Insert (do not screw in) the refueling bolt with the
dipstick into the oil filling port until the stop, and pull
it out again. Read the oil level.
5. In case of low oil level:
Refill oil (SAE 10W-30 or 15W-40) to the lower edge
of the oil filling port.
(See the section "Technical Data" for the maximum
refueling quantity.)
6. Screw in the oil filling screw.
