Contraindications:
a) A pre-operative evaluation determines possible risks from the
implant procedure and healing capacities of the bone and/or
associated soft tissue .
b) Insufficient bone quality or quantity.
c) Patients with insufficient soft tissue thickness.
Children can be fitted, but treatment at an early age is dependent
on the surgeon's evaluation regarding adequate bone depth
and soft tissue thickness . In the United States and Canada, the
placement of a bone anchored implant is contraindicated in
children below the age of 5 .
Possible complications: A 100 % rate of success cannot be
guaranteed . Potential causes for failure of osseointegration
include lack of adequate bone quantity/quality, trauma, infection,
generalised diseases and surgical complications . Patients should
be educated to contact a physician in case of significant trauma,
