GORDON LARGE-BORE CURVED DRAINAGE
CATHETER

DEVICE DESCRIPTION
The Gordon Large-Bore Curved Drainage Catheter is an Ultrathane® catheter
with two stiffening cannulas.
INTENDED USE
The Gordon Large-Bore Curved Drainage Catheter is intended for abscess
drainage.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
None known
WARNINGS
If a catheter has become malpositioned or if drainage ceases, the catheter
should be promptly exchanged or removed.
PRECAUTIONS
• This product is intended for use by physicians trained and experienced
in diagnostic and interventional techniques. Standard techniques for
placement of drainage catheters should be employed.
• Manipulation of product requires ultrasound, fluoroscopy, or other
imaging guidance.
• Patients with indwelling drainage catheters should be evaluated routinely
to ensure continuous function of the catheter.
MRI SAFETY INFORMATION
The Gordon Large-Bore Curved Drainage Catheter is MR Safe according
to ASTM F2503. The accessory components have not been tested for MRI
compatibility.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Use standard Seldinger technique to access the abscess cavity.
2. To prepare the drainage catheter assembly for insertion, fully advance
the stiffening cannula into the drainage catheter until its hub is locked
into position.
3. Activate hydrophilic coating by wetting the surface of the device with
sterile water or saline. For best results, maintain wetted condition of
device during placement.
4. Advance the drainage catheter/stiffening cannula assembly over the wire
guide and into the abscess cavity.
5. Remove the stiffening cannula and wire guide.
6. Aspirate abscess cavity contents through the drainage catheter.
7. Inject contrast media through catheter to verify positioning within
abscess cavity. NOTE: It is important that all sideports of the drainage
catheter are positioned within the abscess.
8. The catheter can now be sutured to the skin, dressed in a standard
fashion, and connected to a closed drainage system.
HOW SUPPLIED
Supplied sterilized by ethylene oxide gas in peel-open packages. Intended
for one-time use. Sterile if package is unopened and undamaged. Do not use
the product if there is doubt as to whether the product is sterile. Store in a
dark, dry, cool place. Avoid extended exposure to light. Upon removal from
package, inspect the product to ensure no damage has occurred.
