• Unit connection sockets on both sides for dir-
ect installation in ventilation ducts.
• For reducers for connecting to other duct dia-
meters → Internet.
• To avoid the transmission of vibrations to the
duct system, we recommend mounting type
ELM-Ex and ELA Ex flexible cuffs, FUM
mounting foot and GP vibration dampers from
MAICO.
17.2 Checks before mounting
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed
check, N = close inspection, S = visual in-
spection
Test schedule
I Unit corresponds to EPL/zone re-
quirements of the installation loca-
tion.
II Correct device group.
III Correct temperature class for
units.
IV Degree of protection (IP degree)
of units corresponds to level of
protection / group / conductivity.
V Unit power circuit name present
and correct.
VI Housing and connections satis-
factory.
VI
Before installing, check that the
I
motor bearing is working properly.
17.3 Unit installation
1. Check unit for transport damage.
2. Prepare installation location for duct, wall or
foot mounting: Lay ventilation duct or flexible
duct. If mounting on wall, make sure there is
a level support surface.
3. Lay a permitted power cable to the installa-
tion location. Use a connection cable suited
to the unit type.
CAUTION Risk of cuts from metal hous-
ing plates with sharp edges.
Wear personal protective equipment (cut-resist-
ant gloves) for installation.
4. ERM ... Ex e, ERM ... Ex t: Transport fan to
installation location. Note safety instructions
and data in the previous chapter.
DANGER Explosion hazard/risk of injury
from an incorrectly mounted fan or a falling
fan.
Only mount on walls/ceilings with sufficient load-
bearing capacity and sufficiently dimensioned
mounting material.
Mounting material is to be provided by the cus-
tomer.
During installation, do not allow people to stand
under the installation location.
5. If mounting with FUM mounting foot: Mount
suitable mounting foot on fan housing with
the self-cutting tapping screws provided (do
not use screws near the impeller). Any install-
ation position can be selected. Make sure
that there is free access to terminal box at the
installation location.
6. Install fan and firmly screw fan down to wall
at all flange holes [X] (4x). Mounting material
of the sufficient size should be provided by
the customer. Note rotation direction and air
flow direction → air direction arrows on unit
sticker.
7. ERM 22 Ex e, ERM 22 Ex t: If reducing to
200 mm, fit the reducer [3] between the fan
and ventilation duct or flexible cuff.
10
DANGER Risk of explosion when operat-
ing without protective device, should foreign
bodies fall or be drawn into the air duct.
Risk of death due to spark formation.
Be sure to fit any free air inlet/outlet with a pro-
tective device that meets the requirements of
EN 13857 and is suitable for Ex areas, e.g. with
MAICO protective grille SGM ... Ex (IP 20 de-
gree of protection according to EN 60529).
When using non-Maico products, an ignition
hazard assessment must be carried out.
8. If the air inlet or outlet is not covered, mount a
permitted protective grille, e.g. MAICO SGM-
Ex protective grille in front of the unit → Fig-
ure C.

9. Ensure a sufficient fresh air supply intake.

10.Fit suitable insulation, sound-absorbing and
installation materials.

18 Electrical connection

● ●
DANGER Danger of electric shock.
Prior to accessing the connection terminals, dis-
● ● ●
connect all supply circuits.
Secure against being switched back on, check
that no voltage is present.
● ● ●
Earth and connect the EARTH with active parts
which are to be short-circuited.
● ● ●
Cover or block off neighbouring live compon-
ents.
● ● ●
Attach a clearly visible warning sign.
Ensure that there is no explosive atmosphere
and/or dust layers.
NOTICE Damage to unit due to speed con-
trol.
No speed control allowed.
18.1 Operating conditions
Operation only permitted, if following conditions
are met:
• Permanently installed electrical installation.
• Connection cable permitted for explosion risk
areas and load.
• Mains disconnect device with a contact open-
ing of at least 3 mm per pole.
• Permitted voltage and frequency → rating
plate.
• Explosion protection terminal box provided.
• Protective-conductor terminal, at mains end in
terminal box. There is a terminal on the outside
of the fan for earthing a duct system.
• Operating in intended air power range.
• Permitted operating point. The current and
power stated on the rating plate are measured
with free suction and free blow-out. They may
be higher or lower depending on the operating
point.
A motor protection switch is essential for
thermal fusing.
18.2 Connect the fan electrically
1. Switch off power supply circuits, position a
visible sign warning against being accident-
ally switched back on.
2. Open terminal box, route cables into terminal
box and screw down with cable feedthrough.
Note tightening torques (in Nm at 20 °C).
Check tightness and tighten if necessary.
Terminal box cover:
M4 stainless steel cyl-
inder head bolts
Mantle terminals
M20 x 1.5 cable feedthrough:
3x connection thread
Cap nut
Clamping area
3. Electrically wire fan → Wiring diagram. Insu-
late exposed wire ends which are not
needed.
18.3 Earthing of fan and duct system
1. Connect PE conductor at mains end in ter-
minal box with explosion protection.
2. Connect PE conductor duct system to ter-
minal on outside of fan.
18.4 Direction of rotation and air
flow direction
1. Check direction of rotation and air flow direc-
tion → Arrows on fan housing.
18.5 Motor protection switch, on/off
switch
1. Install motor protection switch and wire in ac-
cordance with wiring diagram (→ wiring dia-
gram, Fig. D, terminals 4, 5 and 6).
Recommendation: It is imperative that
MAICO MVEx be installed outside the area
with a potentially explosive atmosphere.
2. Set motor protection switch to nominal motor
current (not I
3. Fit an On/Off switch provided by the cus-
tomer.
18.6 Checking electrical connection
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed
check, N = close inspection, S = visual in-
spection
Test schedule
