1) FIELD OF APPLICATION.
EN 13089:2011+A1:2015 / UIAA-152 - Equipment for mountaineering - ice
tools. This product is a personal protective device (P.P.E.) against falls from height;
it is compliant with the Regulation (EU) 2016/425. Attention! There are two
categories of ice axes, picks and handles: type 1 - for use on snow or ice; type
2 - for use on snow, ice or rock. Attention! The symbol indicating a type 2 ice axe,
pick or handle is the letter T engraved inside of a circle.
See the summary table (Fig. 1) to check, depending on the model, the range of
use recommended: ski touring (Fig. 7.1), glacier travel (Fig. 7.2), classic moun-
taineering (Fig. 7.3÷7.6), technical mountaineering (Fig. 7.7÷7.8), ice falls (Fig.
7.9). Attention! Ice axes with light alloy head are not suitable for ice climbing or
in extreme situations.

4) MARKING.
Numbers/letters without caption: refer to the legend in the general instructions
(paragraph 5).
4.1 - General (Fig. 3). Indications: 1; 4; 7; 8; 11; 12; 13; 30) Letter T: indicates

in cm.
4.2 - Traceability (Fig. 3). Indications: T3 ; T8 ; T9.
4.3 - Letter T. The symbol with the letter T is applied depending on whether the
ice axes have the fixed or the interchangeable picks. When the pick is fixed, the
letter T is engraved on the handle when both the handle and the pick are type 2;
in other cases, there is no symbol. When the pick is interchangeable, the letter T
is engraved on the handle if it is type 2 and/or also on the pick if it is type 2; in
other cases, there is no symbol.
5) CHECKS.
Further to the checks listed below, comply with what indicated in the general
instructions (paragraph 3).
Before each use, verify that: the state of wear of the blade, the tip and the drag-
onne paying particular attention; that the dragonne and any other accessories,
when present, are correctly fixed to the device; the absence of clearance between
the parts and the correct tightening of any screws present.
6) INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. In these instructions some precautions are given
(Fig. 4.3-4.4), and how to extract a pick: move the axe back and forth (Fig.
4.1) avoiding lateral movements (Fig. 4.2). Attention! A good technique of pro-
gression on snow or ice is acquired only through experience. The axes may also
be used to make an anchor in the snow (use as a deadman anchor - Fig. 4.5).
Attention! The ability to read the ice and find solid anchors grows mainly through
experience and practice. Attention! The strength of an anchor in the snow always
depends on the type of snow, from what it was made up of and the direction in
which it came from: the figures are only indicative.
6.1 - North Couloir. The North Couloir model is equipped with a modular system
for the installation of various accessories (mixed climbing pick, impact hammers)
and/or spare parts (ice climbing pick, hammer, shovel). For installation, please re-
fer to the drawings (Fig. 5) and tighten the screws until they are correctly tightened.
Attention! In the event of the replacement and/or the installation of a pick, ensure
that the washers are oriented as shown (Fig. 5.1-5.2). Attention! In the event of
the removal of the hammer or the shovel, it is obligatory to insert the corresponding
spacer as shown (Fig. 5.4).
6.2 - Agile Kit. The Agile and Agile + ice axes, complete with shovel and pick
cover make up the Agile Kit o Agile Kit + systems. The Agile Kit are designed for
mountaineering, ski touring and glacier travel: above being able to be used as an
ice axe, they can transformed into a practical shovel (Fig. 4.6) for the extrication
or the construction of an emergency shelter. Attention! The only certificated com-
ponent of an Agile Kit system is the ice axe.
6.3 - Dragonne. The illustrations show the correct installation of a dragonne onto
the ice ax (Fig. 6.1-6.2) and its proper use (Fig. 6.4-6.5). Attention! Always
make sure to have repassed the sling inside the buckle (Fig. 6.2). Attention! The
dragonne can not be used as a piece of protection / anchor (Fig. 6.3).

7) MAINTENANCE. If the pick or the tip become worn out, resharpen by hand
using a file (Fig. 8.1); do not use a mechanical grindstone because the heat gen-
erated could affect the characteristics of the material and jeopardize the strength
of the pick (Fig. 8.2).
8) REPLACEMENT PARTS / ACCESSORIES. The accessories / spare parts are
shown in the table (Fig. 9): ICE* (pick for ice climbing); MIXTE* (pick for mixed
climbing); IMPACT HAMMER*; HAMMER*; ADZE* (shovel); BUMPER* (lower
