Danger caused by materials and other substances
Contact, inhalation
The emissions of the machine may cause damages
to health.
– Only use the motor driven machine outdoors.
Fire, explosion
m Fuel is flammable.
– During work and refuelling smoking and open
flames are prohibited.
In case of emergency
In case of a possibly occuring accident take the
necessary first aid steps as appropriate and obtain
qualified medical aid as quickly as possible.
If you obtain aid please give the following infor-
mations:
1.
Where did it happen
2. What happend
3. How many injured
4.
Type of injury
5. Who is reporting!

4. Functions

Fuel valve lever (Abb.2)
The fuel valve lever (7) opens and closes the pas-
sage between the fuel tank and the carburettor.
If the engine is not in operation, leave the fuel valve
lever (7) in the OFF position to prevent the carburet-
tor from flooding and to prevent leakages.
Throttle lever (Abb.4)
The throttle lever (2) controls the engine speed.
Move the throttle lever (2) in the direction shown to make
the engine run faster (Pos. 4a) or slower (Pos. 4b).
Engine switch (Abb.3) (all engines except typ D)
The engine switch (3) enables (Pos. „ON") and disa-
bles (Pos. „OFF") the ignition system.
Choke lever (Abb.5)
The choke lever (6) opens (Pos. 5b) and closes
(Pos. 5a) the choke valve in the carburettor.
Some engine applications use a remotely-mounted
choke valve control rather than the choke lever
shown here.
Recoil starter grip (Abb.6)
Pull the starter grip (4) on recoil starter (5) to start
the engine.

5 .Before operation checks

5.1 Is your engine ready to go?
For your safety, to ensure compliance with environ-
mental regulations, and to maximize the service life
of your equipment, it is very important to take a few
moments before you operate the engine to check its
condition. Be sure to take care of any problem you
find, or have your servicing dealer correct it, before
you operate the engine.
m WARNING
Improperly maintaining this engine, or failure to cor-
rect a problem before operation, can cause a mal-
function in which you can be seriously hurt or killed.
Always perform a pre-operation inspection before
each operation, and correct any problem.
Before beginning your pre-operation checks, be sure
the engine is level and the engine switch (3) is in the
OFF position. (Pos. „OFF").
Always check the following items before you start
the engine:
Check the General Condition of the Engine
• Look around and underneath the engine for signs
of oil or gasoline leaks.
• Remove any excessive dirt or debris, especially
around the muffler and recoil starter.
• Look for signs of damage.
• Check that all shields and covers are in place, and
all nuts, bolts, and screws are tightened.
Check the Engine
• Check the fuel level. Starting with a full tank will
help to eliminate or reduce operating interruptions
for refueling.
• Check the engine oil level. Running the engine
with a low oil level can cause engine damage..
The Oil Alert system(applicable types) will auto-
matically stop the engine before the oil level falls
below safe limits. However, to avoid the inconven-
ience of an unexpected shutdown, always check
the engine oil level before startup. Check the
reduction case oil level on applicable types. Oil is
essential to reduction case operation and long life.
• Check the air filter element. A dirty air filter ele-
ment will restrict air flow to the carburetor, reduc-
ing engine performance.
• Check the equipment powered by this engine.
Review the instructions provided with the equipment
powered by this engine for any precautions and
procedures that should be followed before engine
startup.

6. Operation

Safe operating precautions
Before operating the engine for the first time, please
review the SAFETY INFORMATION section and the
BEFORE OPERATION CHECKS.
For your safety, do not operate the engine in an en-
closed area such as a garage. Your engine's exhaust
contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas that can
collect rapidly in an enclosed area and cause illness
or death.
m WARNING
Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas
that can build up to dangerous levels in closed ar-
eas. Breathing carbon monoxide can cause uncon-
sciousness or death.
