4 Hygiene
The VORTEX
- cleaned before using for the first time, and then after
every use;
- disinfected as well once a week following cleaning;
- dried between each cleaning and disinfection step, re-
assembled and stored carefully;
- replaced with a new VORTEX
Chamber after one year or after it has been disinfected
60 times.
Additional requirements with regard to necessary hy-
giene preparations (hand care, handling medication)
among high-risk groups (e.g. patients with cystic fibrosis)
can be obtained from the respective self-help groups.
4.1 Preparation
Before each cleaning:
• Insert or twist the expiratory valve (C) into the nebuliser holder
(A).
After each cleaning:
• With a gentle stream of tap water, twist the expiratory valve (C)
back into its original position.
You do not need to twist the expiratory valve when you disinfect it.
4.2 Cleaning
Recommended method: using warm tap water

• Remove the dosing nebuliser connecting ring, and the mask if
one is present.

• Clean all parts thoroughly for 5 minutes with warm tap water
(approx. 40 °C) and a little dishwashing liquid (dosage according
to the manufacturer's recommendations).

• Then rinse all parts thoroughly with clean water and shake the
drops of water off.
Possible alternative: wash in the dishwasher

• Remove the dosing nebuliser connecting ring, and the mask if
one is present.

• Spread the parts out in the top dishwasher basket. Please do not
wash together with dirty crockery. Select a program of at least
50°C.

• When the dishwashing programme has finished, pour out the
water that has collected in the parts. Excess water can be re-
moved more quickly by shaking the parts.
4.3 Disinfection
Recommended method: With the petra electric
type DI 6.00A
Testing of the effectiveness of disinfection by mechanical
means has only been conducted with this device.
• Disinfect all the cleaned, disassembled parts in accordance with
the instructions for use of the DI 6.00 disinfecter. Treatment time
is about 15 minutes.
Possible alternative: In boiling water
• While they are still disassembled, place the cleaned parts in boil-
ing water for at least 15 minutes. Make sure that the water level
in the pot remains sufficiently high.
4.4 Drying

• Place all parts on a dry, clean and absorbent surface and let them
dry completely (at least4 hours).
Drying can be speeded up using a hair-dryer (minimum distance 15
cm). Do not dry in a damp room (e.g. bathroom).
4.5 Storage

• Reassemble your VORTEX
• When not in use, the VORTEX
lint-free cloth (e.g. a tea-towel) and kept in a dry, dust-free envi-
ronment (e.g. not in the bathroom).
