UV-Flame detector UniVario FMX5000 UV.ESSER

Project Planning Information
If it is expected that, in the event of a fire, significant smoke production will occur prior to flame
formation, it must be ensured that the smoke does not impair the flame detector within its
detection area and that the detection of flame formation is not prevented. In this case, it is
necessary to use multiple flame detectors at various positions or additional fire alarms with other
detection methods (e.g. optical smoke detectors).
In planning the installation, it must be considered that some gases, vapours, extreme humidity
as well as fog and rain can absorb the UV radiation of the flames. This reduces the area
monitored and can prevent detection of flame formation. This also applies to flame formation
behind standard glass or plastic window panes.
The following figure shows the relative sensitivity (in percent) for the horizontal and vertical
detection area.
