Original Operating Instructions UNIDRIVE
If the rope has not been guided over the eyebolt, the downward movement is stopped by the body of
the descender device being held with one hand and the other hand being pressed against the rotating
handwheel until the system comes to a standstill. Through the transmission ratio of the gearbox and
the design of the handwheel, the stopping is possible easily and free of risk of injury even from full
speed.
3.5 Downwards Movement (Rescue of Several Accident Victims in Shut-
tle Operation)
The UNIDRIVE descender and rescue lifting device must only be used by persons who have been
instructed in its safe use and who have the appropriate knowledge.
Attention:
When descending do not allow the rope to run over sharp edges. Protect ropes
against sharp-edged objects, welding sparks, chemicals, extreme temperatures or other destructive or
damaging hazards.
The movement in shuttle operation can take place in both directions.
Remove the descender device with the lifting gear from the plastic bag so that the karabiner on the
descender device can be hooked into an anchor point in accordance with the local or national regula-
tions.
(See Illustration 1)
Hook the karabiner at the top end of the descent rope into the attachment point on the rescue harness
EN 1497 / ANSI Z359.4 or full body harness EN 361 / ANSI Z359.1 and secure it. (See Illustration 2).
(Use exclusively anchor eyelets (marked with "A")).
Throw down the plastic bag with the remaining lifting gear. The rope must hang free of loops and
reach down to the lower situated descent point. (See Illustration 3)
There is a karabiner on both ends of the rope on the lifting gear. The lifting gear runs over a sheave.
When there is a rope end with a karabiner at the higher abseil point, the other end of the rope with a
karabiner must be at the lower abseil point.
Fit the rescue harness on the lifting gear to the first person. (See Illustrations 4 and 5) Observe the
operating instructions of the rescue and / or full body harness.
Now pull on the downward hanging lifting gear for so long until a taut connection between the de-
scender device and the rescue harness is made. (See Illustration 6)
For this, switch the direction lever to the direction of the short lifting gear. Now switch the direction
lever to the direction of the long lifting gear.
Facing the wall, step out and descend. (See Illustrations 7 and 8)
The descent speed is automatically controlled. Be aware of obstacles!
