5 Installation
In order to prevent damage to the device or serious
injury during installation, the following points must be
observed:
• Installation work – assembly and installation of the
device – may only be carried out by qualified persons
by following the safety instructions at all times.
• The device must be inspected for transport damage
before carrying out any installation work.
5.1 General
For design and operation of technical sewage systems,
observe the pertinent local regulations and directives
for sewage technology (such as those of the German
Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste).
Note that pressure surges can occur, in particular with
stationary installations where water is pumped with
longer discharge pipes (especially with steady ascents
or steep terrain).
Pressure surges can result in destruction of the unit/
system and noise pollution due to flap knock. Pressure
surges can be prevented by applying suitable meas-
ures (e.g. non-return valves with an adjustable closing
time or special routing of the discharge pipeline).
After pumping water containing calcium, clay or
cement, the device should be flushed with pure water
to prevent encrustation and avoid related breakdowns
later on.
If you are using level control, make sure that the mini-
mum water coverage is present. Air pockets in the
hydraulic housing or pipe system must be avoided at all
costs and must be removed using a suitable ventilation
system and/or placing the device at a slight angle (if
installed as a portable pump). Protect the device from
frost.

5.2 Installation types

• Vertical stationary wet well installation with suspen-
sion unit
• Vertical portable wet well installation with pump sup-
port foot
• Vertical and horizontal stationary dry well installation
5.3 Operating space
The operating space must be clean, free of coarse sol-
ids, dry, frost-free and, if necessary, decontaminated
and it must also be suitable for the particular product.
When working in pump chambers, a second person
must be present for safety reasons. Take the neces-
sary countermeasures if there is a risk of toxic or suffo-
cating gases collecting!
Ensure that a lifting device can be fitted without any
trouble, since this is required for installing/dismantling
the device. It must be possible for the device to reach
its operating and storage locations safely using the
lifting device. The set-down location must have a solid
bearing surface. For transporting the product, the lifting
gear must be secured to the lifting eyelets provided or
the handle.
Installation and operating instructions Wilo-Drain TP 80, TP 100
The power supply cables must be designed to allow
safe operation and installation/dismantling without dif-
ficulty at all times. The device must never be carried or
dragged by the power supply cable. When using
switchgear, the corresponding protection class must be
observed. In general, switchgear must be installed
overflow-proof.
When used in an explosive atmosphere, it must be
ensured that the product and all accessories are
approved for this purpose.
Structural components and foundations must be of
sufficient stability in order to allow the product to be
fixed securely and functionally. The operator or the
supplier is responsible for provision of the foundations
and their suitability in terms of dimensions, stability
and strength!
Dry running is strictly prohibited. Water level must
never fall below the minimum. Therefore, we recom-
mend installing a level control system or a dry-running
protection system where there are great variations in
the level.
Use guide and deflector plates for the fluid inlet. If the
water jet reaches the surface of the water, air will be
introduced into the fluid. This leads to adverse flow and
pumping conditions of the unit. Due to cavitation, the
product does not run smoothly and is subject to higher
wear.
5.4 Installation
Danger of falling!
When installing the device and its accessories,
work is sometimes performed directly at the
edge of the basin or pump chamber. Careless-
ness or wearing inappropriate clothing could
result in a fall. There is a risk of fatal injury! Take
all necessary safety precautions to prevent this.
The following information must be observed when
installing the device:
• This work must be performed by qualified personnel
and electrical work must be performed by a qualified
electrician.
• The unit should be lifted onto the handle or the lifting
eyelet, never by pulling the power supply cable. When
using chains, they must be connected with a shackle to
the lifting eyelets or the handle. Lifting gear must be
technically approved.
• Check that the available consulting documents (instal-
lation plans, layout of the operating space, intake
ratios) are complete and correct.
Never let the pump run dry! We therefore always
recommend installing dry-running protection. A
dry-running protection must be installed for
heavily fluctuating fluid levels!
Check the used cable cross-section whether this
is adequate for the required cable length. (You
can get information on this in the catalogue, plan-
ning manuals or the Wilo customer service).
• Also refer to all regulations, rules and laws for working
with heavy and suspended loads.
• Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment.
