Planing
Correct working posture
When you feed pieces into the plane, stand to one side of the plane and not right in front
of or right behind it.
Handling work pieces
• Adjust the plane to the thickness
of the piece.
• Feed the wood in slowly
and right into the plane.
Feed the thicker part in first,
bending it downwards if
need be. The wood will then
feed into the plane automatically.
• Guide the wood right through
the plane.
• To remove the wood from
the plane, stand on the one side
of the plane and not right behind
or in front. Support long work
pieces with support tables and
support rollers.
• Work pieces shorter than
250 mm may not be planed.
• Plane at a maximum planing depth of 2.5 mm.
• You achieve a better surface if you plane several times with
a smaller planing depth.
• Do not try to plane wood that is warped longitudinally. A warped plank can get
stuck in the planing irons and cause kickback which can lead to machine damage
or personal injury.
• For best results you can plane the wood with a levelling plane before using
the plane. If the wood is only slightly warped, as in the figure, you can try planing
directly.
